Lyon starlet Karim Benzema was asked by France Football who Manchester United's key player was - and his reply came without hesitation...

The youngster was in no doubt as to who his favourite Red Devil was.

"Yes, it's Rooney," he said.

"He's a great attacker who gets involved in the game, and knows how to set up and score goals."

Rooney has been key to United this season, with the Manchester side losing five games in which he wasn't involved, and racking up an 81% victory level with Wayne in the team.

As such, it was clear that Benzema preferred the young Liverpudlian to Cristiano Ronaldo, despite the latter's incredible goalscoring record of 27 in 29 games.

"I don't pay him too much attention," said Benzema of Ronaldo.

"He's a good player who can make a difference, but I prefer Rooney."

Benzema himself has managed 23 goals and six assists for OL this season in all competitions.

He will square off with Rooney - and Ronalo - at the Stade Gerland this evening.
