Manchester City have reportedly offered Luiz Felipe Scolari the manager's job at Eastlands - but have told him he must accept before Euro 2008.
Various newspapers report that the current Portugal coach has been offered a contract worth around £3million a year to take over from Sven-Goran Eriksson, who appears certain to be sacked at the end of the season.
City fans have been concerned that, if Scolari was offered the job, he would not be able to start work until mid-July, with half of pre-season gone already.
However, both The Times and The Independent report that Thaksin Shinawatra plans to attempt to overcome that hurdle by insisting that Scolari gives City an answer before Euro 2008.
They claim: 'Scolari is understood to be interested by City's proposal, which was put to him by Taweesuk "Jack" Srisumrid, the club's executive director, and an intermediary who is believed to be Brazilian.
'However, Scolari is concerned by Thaksin's insistence on an immediate response and would prefer to wait until after the finals in Austria and Switzerland before making a decision on his future.'
However, a City spokesman told the Bangkok Post newspaper that Eriksson would lead the side on an end of season tour to the Far East.
Paul Tyrell said: "Mr Eriksson will be attending."
City will arrive in Thailand on May 14 to open a club store and hold a clinic before playing against Thailand Premier All-Stars on May 17.
A match with a South China Invitation XI follows in Hong Kong on May 22.
