Amaury Bischoff says he is set to join Arsenal after turning down a new contract at Werder Bremen.

The French-born midfielder has had his career tracked by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger since he was a youngster with Strasbourg.

He moved to Bremen in 2005, but has made just one senior appearance for the club against Celta Vigo in the Uefa Cup in 2007.

The 21-year-old was offered a new deal to stay in the Bundesliga, but claims he was unable to turn down the chance to move to Arsenal.

Huge opportunity

"Bremen was superb, but Arsenal is a huge opportunity for me," Bischoff told Bild.

"Wenger has known me since my time at Strasbourg and believes in my quality. He trusts me to be in the first team.

"Wenger has not put me under any pressure. He said, 'Take all the time you need'."

Bremen's managing director Klaus-Dieter Fischer admits the Bundesliga club were keen for Bischoff, who has struggled with injuries in the past, to stay.

Fischer told the club's official website: "We would be happy to have Amaury, but he has decided to take up a new challenge.

"We wish him well and thank him for the past three years."

Ive heard he is a decent enough player but didnt really get a chance to sign
in Germany.
Wenger does have an eye for talent though and got the best out of the likes
of Henry who didnt have a great time with Juve....

I doubt he will be starting 11 though. probably just a squad player
and I certainly wont be losing any sleep over it.
Arsenal need to be buying world class players to have a chance of winning
trophies next season.

We forget that they were only 4 points behind us in the league and were
only a few minutes of getting to the CL semi's so they will be a big threat.

Flamini is a big loss and hopefully Adebayor will head to Milan also.

If he didn't get he chance in Germany then i dont see him getting a great chance in England, look at it this way he cant be better than Diarra was can he ? and Diarra had to put up with months of Wengers cold shoulder, i think they've let two top draw midfield enforcers go in Diarra and Flamini i think they will suffer a lot from this next season. All the top clubs have their fair share of Midfield enforcers and these players are vital when it comes to the business end of the season and in my opinion an unknown player comming in to the Premier League who quite frankly couldnt cut it in the Bundersliga will at best buckle under the pressure, still what else could we expect ... everyone knows what they need except for Wenger himself ? he's a good talent spotter but can he not see he needs a british back bone ? it's comical :)
