WES BROWN'S Manchester United future is on a knife-edge after Alex Ferguson hit out at his contract demands.

Brown, 28, wants £65,000 a week to sign a new deal but has been offered £10,000 less. He could leave on a free in the summer.

Boss Fergie said: “We've given him his offer. It's in his hands, not in ours. Players today live in their agents' pockets. It's a situation which depresses me at times.

“Wes has been with us since he was 12 but I don't think that matters these days. Their agents live their lives for them — and if you are happy to go along with that then you get the situation you have just now.â€

Brown, who currently earns £31,000 a week plus another £10,000 a week every time he plays, has enjoyed one of his best seasons, deputising at right-back for Gary Neville.

Fergie added: “It's amazing given he has had such a good season and such a good run of games while Gary has been injured.

“We wouldn't have made the offer if we hadn't had faith in him.â€

he's been a great servant to the club but he deserves what he deserves... he's not 65 thousand p material imo... there are many a lot better RB's out there but I don't want Fergie to sign someone only as good as him and give HIM 65 thousand... Fergie - if you don't want to give Wes what he demands then bring at least someone better for more money...

It's on BBC Sport too, although they're saying his wage demands are 'over £50k'. As the article on BBC points out Brown has been with United since he was 12 but money seems to be the overriding factor over loyalty these days.

If he doesn't sign I'm sure Fergie will find a good replacement for him in the summer.

So why aren't the OT crowd giving him stick in the same way that we did Rio when he was holding out for a better deal?
Probably because we haven't had to stand by Wes (and pay his wages) while he was suspended for months on end for missing a drugs test before he demanded extra money (about twice what Wes wants), and after paying £30m for him in the first place.

Reporter asked Fergie first question at press conf about Brown - Fergie said I am not answering that - end of ..
Yes I saw that on MUTV, I think Brown will either be left out or he'll be playing in that right defensive position until his contract is at an end.
Players must realise that once they leave United, their careers go down hill, they don't know how good they have it until they leave the club.
I'd be happy to play for United for only 2,000 a week, some players are jealous of other players wages and start demanding more, I just wish the league would introduce a cap, like in rugby and equal salaries, so everyones happy, end of.

would he really give up on league winners medals/ fa cups/ european football to go to the only place stupid enough to fork out that kind of cash a week for a second rate player with a history of injury: NEWCASTLE

I am extremely disappointed in Brown. And looks like the entire matter is indeed true...

He has peaked long ago without our knowledge, never our First XI if the squad is fully fit, but has been playing out of position credibly though nothing fantastically, has had his chances all this while due to the injury of our captain and has been at the club since 12 years old. Yet he wants to or allows his agent to hold the club at ransom over his wage demands at a time of the season when we really need to focus on our football instead. No wonder Fergie is totally pissed. From his reaction in the pre-match press conference, I won't fall off my chair if he so decides to freeze him for good.

He can go if he so wishes after the season. No player should be bigger than the Club; it should never be.

in some regards this would be better but you need a bit of incentive to excell, however being among the best players in the world and competing for titles should be incentive enough!

They are discussing Wes on Sky now

Alan McNally, "I cant believe wes brown is daft enough? They stood by him when he had not one but two cruciate injuries and this is how he repays them".

"A standby right back should not be on 55 grand a week" - Paul Merson.

Alan McNally, "Wes Brown's agent is having a laugh!"

Bye Bye Wes, thanks for being here since you were 12, 16 years. But you are at United, the only other way is DOWN! And you will not get these wages outside United.

Bye Wes, we have a Simpson
