Campbell To Spurs In Berba Deal

According to News of the World, Manchester United are set to clinch the signing of Dimitar Berbatov after offering Fraizer Campbell to Tottenham Hotspur...

United and Spurs have been wrangling over Berbatov for several months now, with the majority of the problems stemming from the clubs' failure to agree a fee for the Bulgarian striker.

The Red Devils offered up to £25million but their counterparts have demanded no less than £28million, and no amount of compromises and promised add-ons from the would-be buyers had managed to break the deadlock - until now.

It is understood that Sir Alex Ferguson is willing to part with Campbell if it will guarantee Berbatov's arrival at Old Trafford, as he had been considering a £7million bid from Hull City for the 20-year-old.

The England under-21 forward impressed during his loan spell with the Tigers last season, scoring 15 goals as he helped them to the top-flight for the first time in their 104-year history.

Phil Brown is eager to bring Campbell back to the KC Stadium, but the Huddersfield-born hitman now looks to be headed for White Hart Lane instead.

Thus, Berbatov is set to finally complete his dream switch to United in a deal worth around £30million. He will agree personal terms this evening and is likely to make his debut against Liverpool on September 13.

Lets hope that is true. I would pay max 28m pounds for him but if we must pay 30ish then so be it lol

Why doesn't United just sell Campbell to Hull for 7mil and add 3mil to the 25mil Tottenham offer to match their demand? That way we stay on positive terms with Hull and have an extra 3mil.

The highly promising 20-year-old striker started United's opening Premier League fixture against Newcastle United, having spent a successful loan spell at the KC Stadium last season. He scored 15 goals for Hull as Phil Brown's Tigers won promotion to the top flight for the first time in their history.

Now, the Tigers have attempted to lure him back permanently by weighing in with an offer that will take some considering.

"We've put a £7million bid on the table to Manchester United," Hull chairman Paul Duffen told Radio Humberside.

"The complexities of their situation are that it depends on them getting one in, that one might well be Bulgarian (Berbatov).

"As I said all the way through the summer we need to be respectful of that and there's nothing I can do to force the situation.

"If they do bring someone in I want to be at the front of the queue and I will do whatever it takes to bring (Campbell) to the football club.

"There will be a lot of people alluding to the fact we've got carried away with ourselves. But I can absolutely guarantee that I'm here for the long-term, building the football club.

"And we are going to have to get braver in some of the things we do but it will never be at the cost of threatening the security and financial ability of the club long term."

Campbell was in the United squad to play Zenit St Petersburg in the European Super Cup final, but the consensus in the media is along the lines of what Duffen suggested in that Sir Alex Ferguson may be persuaded to let him leave if he can complete a deal for Tottenham Hotspur striker Dimitar Berbatov.

The problem at the moment is that we will be in trouble if rooney or tevez gets injured as we then won't have a striker on the bench. Surely if we swap Berbatov for Campbell the situation in terms of numbers will be the same?

daft comment. we need campbell as much as getting berbatov. selling campbell dont sort out the long term. we need the four striker rotation system that has worked so well in the past. this would be

berbatov, rooney, tevez, campbell

selling/swapping cambell just aint good business for United. We should now have plenty of money with silvestre, saha, pique all going over the summer and the money from champions league everyone bangs on about all the time.

We are not a club that has to swap players to fund deals
