When a team is defending a Beckham style free kick, why do they always form a wall blocking the goalies view ?
Surely it would be bettter to put two men either side of the goalie on the line,

You may say that the oppposing forwards could then move forward without being offside, but I would say more people going forward would make it even harder for the kicker, they would find it very hard to put one in the top corner as the men on the line would put them off for sure.............when will they ever learn?

Well some teams tried what you suggest, and they failed. Having players in front of goal might make it harder for someone like Giggs to score, but it'll also make it impossible for the keeper to see the ball. Let me make it simpler, if you were the goal keeper, would you rather your defenders close someone like scholes or Van Persie down and make it harder for them to hit the target or would you want them to stand by you and face their shots heads on ? They dont need to put it in the top corner, they'll just hit the ball as hard as they can and with the keepers view blocked its more than likely that its going in.

It works well when you use a man near the post in pro evo though.

2 MEN WOULD BE MUCH, 1 MAN ON THE OTHER HAND COULD BE SMART THING TO DO...p.s. sorry for the caps, i'm not yelling...

I said two men either side of the goalie not in front of him, like you have a couple gaurding the post at corners, how many goals have you seen saved with that tactic?
a header, and a thunderbolt from Paul Scholes. Theres a difference. I know that you meant two either side of the keepers but like you said, players will be standing in front of the keeper as there wont be any offside and there are ging to be players marking them.

It would be near impossible for the goalie to see the ball and 8 times out of 10 the likes of Van Persie, Rooney and Scholes would score.

1. Goalie may be obstructed by his own players when diving to save a shot.
2. Defenders would be tempted to raise their hands and concede a penalty.
3. You could have up to 10 or more players in the goal mouth during the free kick.

Imho....It would cause too many rows over offside calls and penalties been given for pushing and shoving.....although I suppose this could also be said of corner kicks.
I think it's a bad idea imho.
