Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick felt the Red Devils could have won by more goals last night, but said the fear of conceding forced them to hold back a little.

Ronaldo's first half strike was enough to grant United a 1-0 win on the night and 2-1 victory on aggregate, putting them into the hat for the quarter-final draw.

But while the Red Devils sometimes held back a bit with their attacks, ensuring a nervy ending to the tie, Carrick felt they defended well as a unit.

"We could probably have scored a couple on the breakaway in the second-half, and it left the game on a knife-edge but it is job done, and we are through to the next round," Carrick told reporters after the game.

"I thought that we played some decent stuff in the first half, aware that we wanted to score first to give us a cushion. But these games are always tight, and I thought we defended really well as a team," he added.
