Michael Carrick believes moving to Manchester United was the best decision of his career.

The former Tottenham midfielder has managed to secure two Premier League titles, not to mention a European Cup in his short time with the club.

He is ready to return to action following a slight hamstring injury against Orlando Pirates in a Vodacom Challenge match in South Africa on Tuesday.

Carrick is looking forward to the new campaign and the chance to add to his medal haul.

"Being at United is the best place in the world to be. The best thing I ever did was join the club," insisted Carrick.

"The team we have is moving in the right direction and we are progressing well.

Success
"We want to build on the success we've had over the last couple of years.

"We expect so much of each other and ourselves. What people from outside say doesn't have an effect on us - we know what we can do and what we're capable of doing."

Carrick believes seasoned stars like Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville are the root cause of United's continued success.

"I look at them and wonder how they've done that for so long but now I know you can't get enough of it," Carrick added.

"Hopefully that will drive us on to have more success in years to come.

"We managed to win the double so as players, we're going into the new season full of confidence."

England
Carrick, however, has yet to catch the eye of Fabio Capello, but the former West Ham man says he is not worried and is only focusing on doing his job for United.

"I just put England to the back of my mind. I'm here to do my best for United. That's what I love doing," noted Carrick.

"If I can get in the England squad then that's great but I can only put in my performances for United and see how far that takes me."

Carrick is hardly the best midfielder in the club, be he's important to United. More often than not his passing is top notch, his tackling isn't bad, keeps possession well and he shows a fair amount of determination on the pitch. He leaves the fancy stuff to other players and gets the basics right.

I certainly won't complain if Carrick sees out his career at United. Quality player.

We certainly missed him last year when he did not play , carrick and scholes played well together last season a good partnership.
carrick is certainly an unsung hero , when he first signed i thought a lot of money for a very average player , but to his credit he has got better and better .
I personally cannot see why he constantly gets overlooked for englan , he is as good as anybody in his position in this country if not better.

After spending the best part of our summer thinking about the Ronaldo saga, moving from the dread of him leaving to some saying he should leave for his poor attitude to now where it looks like he will stay, it is nice to see a player come out and say what we as fans all want to hear.
Carrick has followed players like Rio and Rooney who are both important to the club into dedicating his future to the club. Why people wouldnt want to play for such a top club I dont know but still...
Long may Utd continue to attract players that will stay faithful to the club through the good and bad.

I can reflect on Carrick too, being a geordie and supporting United, everytime I go to Manchester, I don't want to leave, the club is like a good drug to me, I don't want to leave.

Newcastle United were fools for not taking him to the club when he was a schoolboy but there you go, we've let some good players leave when they didn't make it at the club, but I'm happy for Carrick.

Nice to have atleast one geordie, that's winning trophies :p

In two seasons he's won two Premierships, A Champions League, Acommunity Shield and finished as runner up in the FA Cup.

After two years like that I would expect him to be happy ;)

Michael had a really good end to last season, and began to show United fans what he's about. I personally think he is quite underrated by a lot of people and they don't realise what a good passer of the ball he is. He's definatly a player I would like to keep at United.

I do not wish to stop the Carrick love fest, which is going on here, but to give a more balanced view.

Michael Carrick is a talented player, who gives his best for Manchester United and I'm glad that he's happy at United.

To my mind, he is the best passer of the ball in the English game and I'm not saying that because I'm biased, but because I mean it.

He actually had more impact in his first season than his second season, but remain important for us. Many attacks that result in goals are started by a Miichael Carrick pass, so his distribution is vital for us.

My hope for Michael is that he adds another dimension to his game and becomes a bit wiser when he's having and off-day.

Let me clarify what I mean:

I think he's being overlooked by Capello, because his playing is mostly about passing and doesn't usually run a lot with the ball, so in the England set-up Capello has Lamps and Gerrard can do both.

If Michael adds this to his game, he will be constantly picked for England and it would be a real bonus for United.

Next, when he's having an off-day and is not finding his range with his passing, he hardly seems to be wiser and try something different till he finds it, so he ends up giving the ball away.

It would be good if he plays some shorter pases and uses the ball more economically if he's having an off-day and tries to play longer passes as the game goes on. In this manner he could build up some rhythm and confidence. Instead, I often see him insist on making long passes, even if he not finding his intended target and as a result his confidence suffers and possesion is wasted.

Lastly, I sometimes feel that he could be playing with more tenacity.

If he could do this, he'd really be bossing the game.

Just my obseveation.

i'm very happy with him being a United player though and he's been great for us since he signed. Like most, I thought Fergie was paying over the odds, and TBH 18mil was a lot for him, but you can't really argue with the way the team has been playing and the success we've enjoyed since he's joined.
