Manchester United have confirmed that Michael Carrick has fractured his elbow.

The England midfielder sustained the injury during Tuesday's UEFA Champions League clash with Roma, when he fell awkwardly when challenging Mancini.

Scans have confirmed a break, which will rule him out until mid-December.

"Michael has sustained a fractured right elbow and will be out for up to six weeks," said a club spokesman.

The news only adds to United's midfield worries with Owen Hargreaves, Darren Fletcher and Park Ji-sung already sidelined.

But i possibilty see O'Shea filling in!

Any update on when Fletcher is back?

I would be surprised if Fergie played without a defensive midfield player against any team (even Wigan since they have Koumas) so if Brown/G Neville is fit I think O'Shea will play in central midfield.

More bad news and very bad timing considering OH is injured.
Not to worry though, we have a very capable squad indeed. O'Shea can play there as well as Giggs and Anderson. In reply to someones question:yes Pique can play there. He played superbly for Zaragoza as a holding midfielder last season. Its annoying that we keep getting injuries but its times like these when the players coming need to take their chances.

I don't agree with you swearing at everyone but you do make a point..

Scholes and O'shea in CM is a very valid option and will be fine for us.

O'shea won us the game against Liverpool last season and kick started our come back against Everton away.

Even if Fergie doesn't want to play O'shea in CM we can put Giggs there with Scholes (this was done last season at times) and play Nani and Ronaldo on the wings.

We also have Anderson who could be played in CM.

Rooney can play Left Wing as well..

Why hasn't anyone mentioned Eagles. He has been playing well in CM for us when tested.

O'shea may be played at LB with Brown being out so i'd expect either Eagles or Giggs to start CM next game.

o shea will play centre mid deffo IMO we have plenty of cover in the RIGHT BACK slot and not many in the defensive midfield role

last year our defence was terrorised with injuries, at the start of this year our strikers were hit with injuries and now our midfield has... its only a matter of time until our wingers pick up long term injuries
