It'd be a good move if and only if we bring in another midfielder to protect Carrick. He's got a good eye for a pass, and he can tackle. But he's no Keane, his style isn't the same. At Tottenham he does well because Davids covers for him, so he doesn't have to do as much of the dirty work.

He'd be great as a deep-lying playmaker though, given his vision and passing ability.

There are a few players who cannot get into the England setup because Mr Erriksson likes his little yes men around him. He drops anyone who shows any sort of spirit ir initiative.

Kevin nolan, to be fair, we had these rumours last summer as well.

20M for Carrick now!? No way! This is ridiculous.. How can clubs charge such an extortionate amount of money for a player? They bought him for 2.5m! There's no way he has done anything to merit this meteoric rise in value.

If he's worth 20m. Then Riquelme must be hitting 35M..

He's not worth it. I would rather stick with what we have than pay that. Yes we do need new players but Carrick would not be the deciding factor in a title race against chelsea.

Of course Carrick is not worth it, but then again nobody is.

Its quite a simple equation if you put your mind to it:

Carrick

Rangers want to buy him - ok £5m

Carrick

Manchester United want to buy him - ok £20m

Its our name that trebles the price. We either pay or lose out.

Well, the thing is also that Tottenham have no reason to sell Carrick, who was arguably their best midfielder last season. Sure, he had help from Davids so he could play his game, but that makes no difference.

They don't need to sell him, we want to buy him. They'll hold out for as much as they can.

The problem with summer signings in world cup year is managers wait and see. But, if a player has a good world cup, the original team interested suddenly becomes outbid by a more "attractive" club. Not to mention the price going up - and up!

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed Tottenham Hotspur have rejected a bid for Michael Carrick, while United have also turned down a bid from Real Madrid for Ruud van Nistelrooy. Ferguson is searching for a new midfielder, as he looks to find a long-term replacement for Roy Keane. Tottenham admitted last month that United had tabled a bid for Carrick, but that they had rejected the bid out of hand. Ferguson is a big admirer of the former West Ham United man and is thought to be weighing up a new move for the classy midfielder. "We are trying to sign another central midfielder," said Ferguson. "We have made a bid for Michael Carrick, but they (Tottenham) turned it down."
