Torres to spark mad Man Utd, Liverpool scramble
June 12, 2007
Atletico Madrid are set to put captain Fernando Torres on the market.
The news will spark a transfer scramble with the Premier League's 'big four' all previously linked with the Spanish international over the past season.
Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal would be forced to offer at least 15million for Torres' services while the Daily Mirror also believes Tottenham, West Ham and Newcastle have the funds to mount rival bids.
The 23-year-old has scored 82 goals in 212 league appearance for Atletico while his record for Spain is 14 in 42 games.
His club's failure to earn a UEFA Cup slot this season means they are expecting to lose their star forward and the Premier League is the most likely destination.
Perosnally before the prospect of Berbatov came on the scene i was a big fan of Torres adnw anted to push for him in the last year, despite having a poor season at Atletico. I think he is all that we need in a striker young keen to learn can be a target man and with right guidence can be a 25 goal a season striker. He has already captained his side so knwos about pressure and hascapability of playing in europe and i know fergie is pushing to win Europe in his few last seasons. Why not if you will have to pay 15mill-20mill. I rekon honestly he will not stay in spain. He has already admitted before that england was the best and is where he would like to go. He said before he was a fan of arsneal's football but had said Man U wud be the right team for him with their big status. Also it was seen he had a captains armband, with you will never walk alone on. Which gives L'pool fans a bit of hope but i would be loving it WHEN liverpool fans think they can get the signing and then we take him and they will be depressed
. Muhahaha
