Italian enforcer could leave Roma 07 May 2009 - 09:18 | Sport.co.uk

Roma’s Daniele de Rossi may leave the Serie A giants at the end of the season, with Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool all said to be monitoring the situation.

Roma have struggled all season in the league and are unlikely to qualify for next season’s Champions League, as a result the Giallorossi’s hierarchy are already planning for the financial aftermath meaning a number of their top earners may leave the Stadio Olimpico.

De Rossi is one of the best central midfielders in Europe, and all of the top four clubs in England, as well as Manchester City have shown an interest in the Italian international.

Inter Milan have reportedly already put in a bid of €40 million for the player, however initial speculation suggests the player would favour a move to either Spain or England.

Italian agent Vincenzo Morabito told 24oredisport: “The club is in a very difficult situation. I expect two or three significant departures.”

“Without a doubt Philippe Mexes will leave, the other could be Simone Perrotta. If a great offer arrived for De Rossi, I think the vice-captain could also be sold.”
De Rossi is one of the best midfielders in the world. I'll be over the moon if we sign him.

I see this guy as Roy Keane's natural successor

nah. as much as how i would love to have him, i doubt we would even go for another defensive midfielder. carrick, anderson, hargreaves, fletcher. we have enough cover. considering the debts we have, SAF wouldnt go for him.

35 something. exchange rate is pretty much the same now. no way we should spend 35mil on him. quality player tho
Its gunna be like this from now on though, inflated prices wherever you look, we'll be lucky to get a top player for under £20m, its not just us, worldwide...

Alternatives to him wouldn't be much cheaper;

Pirlo - £40m+ (even at his age)
Kaka - £60m+
Fabregas - (never happening)
Barry - £25m (wants Liverpool, so big NO)
Xavi - £50m+
Veloso / Moutinho - £20m+ each (untested at higher level)
Diego - £25m+ (again untested)

Those are pretty much the only players of a similar calibre/position worth looking at

Even Delph would set us back £10m, and hes 18 and largely inexperienced

o yeah im not saying that isnt the going rate now. im saying that we dont need to go out and spend 35mil on someone in that position. as talented as the guy is we dont need cover there. think how many players have played centre mid this year apart from hargo for obvious reasons

Scholes needs replacing still, for sure, and De Rossi seems ideal, can completely dictate games...

£40M? F**k off!

He's a great player and a player I would like to see at this club.
But we do have so many options in midfield at the moment,
therefore he is not needed - definately not at that price, but that's the tabloids speaking too.

Ronaldo--De Rossi----Carrick/Scholes/Ando-----Hargreaves.

Thats a pretty rigid looking midfield imo. I wouldnt like the look of that, itd be almost chelsea like football.

On the topic of de-rossi, a very good player, not world class imo but a very good player and would probably do a good job here but i dont think we need him...maybe if hargo isnt the same player when he comes back but i wouldnt mind if he came or did not.

pz!
