The news will come as a lightning bolt to the heart of Premier League defenders. Cristiano Ronaldo, who is already the most elusive of customers in attack, is to have sprint lessons from Usain Bolt, the fastest- ever human on the planet. The small mercy for the rearguard merchants of English football's top flight is that Manchester United's No 7 will not get the chance to utilise any boost in speed until the start of next season.

The world player of the year and the world's fastest man are to meet in the summer, when Bolt is in Europe competing on the Grand Prix and Golden League circuit and preparing for the World Championships, which take place in Berlin in August.

The Jamaican, who struck 100m, 200m and 4 x 100m relay gold in world record times at the Beijing Olympics last August, is likely to be based for the European outdoor season at Teddington in south-west London, close to his manager, the Irishman Ricky Simms.

"It's definitely going to happen," Simms said yesterday. "We'll sort something out this summer when Usain comes to Europe."

The alliance is no corporate sportswear stunt – Ronaldo is a Nike man, Bolt a Puma athlete. It has come about because Bolt is a big Ronaldo fan. In his home at Trelawny Parish in Jamaica he has a room full of signed football shirts, but not one with the imprint of his favourite player.

A management-to-management request for one was met with an affirmative response from Ronaldo, with the proviso that Bolt would spend time with the marauding Red Devil working on his speed.

It will not be the first time that a sprinter of note has worked with a footballer. Ben Johnson was employed as a sprint coach by Diego Maradona and by Al-Saadi Gaddafi, the football-playing son of the Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi.

That was in the late 1990s, a decade after the Canadian's fall from grace at the Seoul Olympics, when he tested positive for steroids after winning the 100m in world record time.

this should be quite a interesting experience for ronaldo,
i mean hes already one pacey boy but with him being even faster could really spell trouble for defenses.
lets just hope the training comes of some benefit to united as a whole as well as that boy ronaldo

Speedster Bolt to fire Runaldo

CRISTIANO RONALDO has signed up the fastest man on Earth to help boost his deadly pace.
Olympic 100m champ Usain Bolt asked the Manchester United star for a signed shirt and Ron sent a message back saying he wanted a favour in return.

So footy-fan Bolt - who set a world record 9.69 seconds winning his Beijing gold last year - is planning a trip to Manchester for a training session with Ronaldo.

The Jamaican’s agent Ricky Simms said: “It’s definitely going to happen.

“We’ll sort something out when Usain comes to Europe to compete this summer.”

This will be great. bolt helping out ronaldo to become faster.. then the full backs will be very worried
i would just kick the ball past the defender and run after it..

P.S. this will be my last post for about a week as im going on vacation

Yawn.

Oh yeah, I could imagine a marketing gimmick.

USAIN BOLT, "Hang Out With Me For Those Extra Five Yards".

Prices start at £1000 an hour.

Whatever.

Wish he thought him how to take free kicks consistently instead. Beyond annoying how many times he makes a mess of them. He bangs in a cracker and then doesn't score again for ages. Doesn't stop him grabbing the ball everytime we have one though.

I can't say it would hurt to give Giggs a freekick every now and again, or Hargreaves
when he gets back.

Awsome, i can't wait to see hoe good Ronaldo will be next season, he will be so fast and will rip through defenders, i won't be suprised if he hits the 50 goal mark next season.

there is one thing nobody has thought about explosively fast players pull their hamstrings a hell of a lot just like giggsy in his younger days , possibly saha and many other speed merchants in the game .
i hope ronaldo does not do his body damage in the quest for an extra yard of pace.

Ronaldo is strong behind the the front attackers because he has more to maneuver at high speed but unfortunately his more on the wing now. I guess this is the price that he pays for the Real madrid thing in the summer, somehow Fergie relays on players loyal to the club this season.
Aldo the defenders don't give such space to Christiano anymore he's real dangerous at high speed
