Defoe is reported to be moving back to Spurs at the time of writing this and will be "unveilled" today apparently. BUT, nobody from the FA has been approached asking for permission to move him to Spurs. Why? Because no player is allowed to return to any club he has left for 12 calendar months.

Tottenham still have some loose ends to tie up over the transfer with Premier League approval required as Rule L19 forbids players returning to clubs within a year.
So, what happens of the FA enforce the rule. Or do they waive rules when it suits.

Really?

I did not know that.

So are they going to get away with it, or is it simply not going to happen?

No you've got that wrong, your not allowed move within the same year. January2008/january2009.;)

Well, Robbie Keane is now talking to Spurs and reportedly having a medical. That would mean he would be returning to Spurs within a year of leaving.

So, what happens now?

Spurs setback as Defoe is ruled out for 10 weeks

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/soccer/2009-02-02-2752880678_x.htm

LONDON (AP) — Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe will be out for up to 10 weeks with a stress fracture to his right foot, ruling him out of the League Cup final against Manchester United.

The 26-year-old England international missed Tottenham's win in the competition last February because he joined Portsmouth. He then missed his new club's FA Cup final triumph in May because he was cup-tied.

"Following further scans and examination, Jermain Defoe will undergo surgery tomorrow after suffering a stress fracture in his right foot," Spurs said Monday. "Early detection has allowed the club to opt for the best long-term treatment."

Defoe, who rejoined Spurs early in January from Pompey, picked up the injury, to his fifth metatarsal, during an indoor training session on the eve of Saturday's 3-2 loss at Bolton.

Manager Harry Redknapp brought Robbie Keane back to Spurs on Monday from Liverpool to bolster the strike force. But the Ireland striker is also cup-tied for the League Cup final on March 1 after playing just three minutes in the League Cup for Liverpool in September.
