DON'T CALL US MAN U !!!!! please

16054 Views 80 Replies 29 Participants Last post by  Red Devil
Man U is not a term REAL / TRUE United fans refer themselves to... WHY??? This term is mostly only used by other supporters as a complete and utter insult.. In case anyone on this board is not aware rival supporters used to sing a song about Munich and it goes Man U Man U went on a plane Man U Man U never came back again... Now if thats not getting your blood boiling nothing will.We are UNITED, MAN UTD, MANCHESTER UNITED, RED DEVILS. We do not have any songs with THAT name in them nor will you be able to buy any official merchandice using that term, it is not printed on any scarves or badges . Now I have been a "United" supporter all my life and have never used that phrase to describe the name of my team. It even has annoyed me to write about the song with the name in it, but thought I had to just to get my point over to people who have never heard it ( real United fans forgive me please ) You dont use the phrase Man C Leeds U Aston V etc etc So dont use M** *. Like the song goes Theres Only One United so people will know who you support when using this term..All said whenever someone calls us M** * I simply correct them.. And I think this should be implimented on this board..So come on lads lets educate the ones that need it and keep THAT name away form our club and this board..The term Utd is the proper abbreviation for the word United and nothing else

When I seen this thread start a while back I never thought for a second that it would go this far "Don't refer to Manchester United as Man U"
It is offensive don't use it, you may if you wish continue to use it but you are just being offensive to everyone else on this board so make your minds up from here if you want to be offensive to others here then use it if you don't then don't use it can it really be that difficult to understand.

and if anyone can remember the Scousers chanting and it pains me even to type this but for educations sake

Man U Never Intended Coming Home

I just read the start of this thread again and I'm confused.

Please dont tell me the reason we have to be annoyed with the term 'Man U' is because some assholes included it in their silly little song !!!

If people sing sick songs about United or whatever - ignore them !!

Making big fuss about it - like this - only makes them happy to see they have upset you !!

It's just a silly pathetic little song, sung by a very, very small group of idiot fans from Liverpool and Leeds.......a very small minority indeed. But with all this fussing and worrying about it - you make it a BIG, BIG thing.

I read here that someone says it is also because someone once said Man Ure too.

LMFAO......

That is pathetic - a very sad attempt to make a joke really.

If someone said to me "Carly you bitch - you're a big pile of manure"....I would have to laugh at this - silly little person.

I ask a few of my friends too who follow United - they never heard about this Man U thing either !!

I don't know - much ado about nothing maybe huh :p

carly - it is not some small thing like a personal insult - would you have laughed if someone had called your , God forbbid , dead sister or father, bitch or a ****...and to even sign a song about the way your someone has died, and that everyone who hates you accepts that way of insulting you, would you be laughin ? I doubt it... That's excatcly what they're doing. It's not booing Ronaldo, it's not droping stones on Smithy's ambulance car. people died ...it was a horrible death. They are insulting the dead, thus their families and entire humanity- Let's be bigger than THEM - we are here to politely educate those who don't know it... especially when it comes from some of our fans... It's not my thing only - it is recognized in Manchester also. We're trying to be Manchester United forum, lets' start by behaving like a true Manchester United fans. And they ARE AGAINST the name MAN U ...There is no explanation... It is as it is - it is an insult !

I dont know you. And to be honest I dont care if you keep using that term or not. But what annoys me is how ignorant you can be about it. You want to use the term, fine go ahead. After all most tv and merchandise companies use it. But if you know the reasons why we dont like the term and you dont see a big deal with it, then your out of line.

It was used to insult the dead from munich, the great people that MADE United into what it is and the reason why we support the club right now. When a United fan reacts to such provoking, hes not being silly, oh my he has every right to react. Since Im only 20 I havent seen many accidents involving the use of that term but Ive heard many stories about rival fans being beaten up because theyve used it. Can you imagine liverpool fans beating some other liverpool fans ? Do you think they would do that if it wasnt such a big deal ?

Dammit it is a big deal. Like I said feel free to use it if you want to, but it would be insulting to me and to many fans on here.

Slight problem here.

You obviously didn't read what I wrote.

You dont care if I keep using that term ?

When did I use it ?

Where did I say I have ever used this name ?

When did I ever say I will use this name ?

You might find it annoying how ignorant I am - well I apologise but I'm from abroad and my post was to explore the reasons and to learn about this.

Don't invent things in your head about me saying it, or using it.

I was talking in general about people trying to lighten up how offensive the term is. You said, and I quote "Please dont tell me the reason we have to be annoyed with the term 'Man U' is because some assholes included it in their silly little song !!!". Well yeah its because of that, and it is a big deal unlike what your implying there about it being silly. Insulting our dead is not something we can call silly.

You weren't talking in general at all.......you specifically said "I dont care if you keep using that term or not. But what annoys me is how ignorant you can be about it. You want to use the term, fine go ahead".

Aimed directly at me - not people in general !!!

So what would happen now if they had used the term "Manchester United" instead of "Man U" ?

Change the clubs name ?
I was talking about the people witing in this thread in general, I quoted your post as an example of what I mean. "You" can be used in more than one form, I can say "you Carly" or "you people". I chose not to specify cause I thought it was clear enough, apperantly it wasnt.

But they didnt use Uniteds name did they ? Singing

duncan edwards is manure, rotting in his grave
MAN YOU are manure-rotting in your grave

It has nothing to do with manchester United. Its not nickname for our club, it never was.
LMAO.......yes ok whatever..............you QUOTED me and then said "you"........anyway forget that !!!

I understand what you say here now you show me some of the words to this song.....

You cant expect all of the United fans on here to know about songs like this - I never heard it - in fact only 2 people have shown they are angry about this......everyone else seems oblivious to it all.

I very rarely see the term 'Man U' on here to be honest.

My point was.........by showing that this pisses you off in such a big way only makes them do it more !!

Sometimes people say nasty things to me.......so I ignore them and very soon it stops !!

Anyway..........I think everyone has the message now.

So lets forget all this and get back to watching United thrash everyone who turns up for a game, lol.....:)

Hey, Keano's fan! Have you watched Man U recently? What do you say about Man U's striker Carlito Tevez? I think Man U are playing very well at the moment. ...

Now all you've got do do is to ignore me..simple, isn't it?
I agree with you to some extent. When a person "attacks" someone for using the term without knowing their background, it leads to people being ignorant about it. People have to remember that the amount of foreign fans is way larger than the amount of english fans and a large base of our fans havent lived in the 50s-80s and know very little about that era. Education, nicely put education, is required from the ppl with knowledge. You dont shout at someone and expect him to do what you say. Instead you put your point across nicely on why the term is offensive and Im positive that the vast majority of our lovely fans would stop using the term once they know its offensive.

Again, the term is offensive. And for people who say its just a nickname, you dont call Man City "man C" do you ? or "aston V" ? Its not a nickname, its an offensive term

I would never actually think to use this term 'Man U' to be honest. Never mind 'Man C' or 'Aston V'.......it's just weird to say and bad English.

Then again the average Scouser doesn't speak too good English anyway, lmao.....I cant understand a bloody word they say :D :D

As long as everyone sees this thread then they will know all about what you say and................problem solved :)
This rant is pointless, it doesn't matter what we call Manchester United whether it be Man U, Man Utd, United, The Reds, The Red Devils or whatever. Does anyone really give a flying toss?
Aslong as we love and support the manager, the players and the club, does it really matter what we call the club?
It matters, because I'm sure you don't want to call your team "Man U", as our arch rivals do.

"Man U" stands for "Manchester United", just like "etc" stands for "etcetera" and many other abbreviated words.

So what does it matter? We are Man U, we are Man Utd, we are Manchester United.

Personally I never say Man U, I just say United. But I'm just making a point.

Call us "Man U" in a pub in salford full of united fans and find out.

No it doesnt stand for Manchester United. Again, have you ever heard anyone call City "Man C" or Newcastle "New U" ? No, cause Man U doesnt stand for United its an utter insult that is being misused by many.
Lawbreaker - we ARE ignoring it , but it shouldn't be used by United fans, and any United fan who uses this term should be educated . And with this thread we're trying to do that.... We're not here to talk about Liverpool fans, or assnal's ... We are here to warn people who haven't been warned about it before.
And for the last time hopefully - THE TERM MAN U does not describe Man United ! It hasn't been used by Man United fans who have been introduced with the situation . there are NO United songs, t-shirts or badges that include the term Manu U. I suggest people on here accept it is offensive and I would be pleased if no one used it once seeing THIS thread !
Thank you !
Some people are taking this topic way too seriously, I understand where you're all coming from though.

yeah..i find it very offensive any way i look at it..so please stop calling us man U now..so that everyone would be happy...there are still many other nick names we can choose from..if u say man U is a short term, then why not use MU instead? it's the shortest and not offensive in any way..
MU_sketeers said:
First of all, I never called Man U to address Manchester United although I just knew about this.

But is it such a big deal ? Considering there are so many United fans in the whole world that possibly not realized about this very fact. In my country, I am sure there are still lot of fans still called Man U to refer Manchester United.

The bottomline is, whatever the name is, but the passion is still the same.
lol..your signature says " If you will success in the future, you have to remember the history " then why aren't you following it? we are talking about our history man..so we should learn from it..that's what this thread is all about..busted..

I too was under the impression you were talking directly to Carly and I thought "Carly would never say that".

ManU is an ABU expression; when it began to be used in the 90s, it was an abbreviation for ManU-re, another fav ABU expression.
