New Tottenham signing Giovani Dos Santos has revealed he turned down Manchester United and Chelsea to sign on the dotted line at White Hart Lane.

The Mexican youngster was a summer signing from Barcelona in a deal which could rise to £8.6 million depending on appearances.

The 19-year-old, who has been hailed as one of the brightest prospects in Europe, claimed he was not prepared to sit on the bench at Old Trafford or Stamford Bridge.

He told Mundo Deportivo: “My decision is purely sport. I wanted to play more and Tottenham gave me this opportunity.

“I also had good offers from Chelsea, Manchester United and Ajax, but I loved Juande Ramos' ideas. I am going to do great things with the Spurs."

Dos Santos hopes to hit the ground running whent the new campaign kicks off in August and has backed himself to be a big hit in The Premier League.

He added: "I want to be the star of The Premier League next season. That is my objective and the reason I have left Barcelona for Tottenham.

"I believe that my style of play can be better in England than it is in Spain, but my first challenge will be to adapt to The Premier League.

"The coach Juande Ramos has been key in this move. I spoke with him to know his intentions and I am very excited about this new adventure.

"Juande has said that next season could be very big for Tottenham and that was a big attraction for me."

The Mexican also confirmed that Spurs were keen on bringing his brother Jonathan to North London as part of the deal.

He explained: “Yes (Tottenham wanted to sign my brother), but 'Jona' will stay in Barcelona . It will be a way to keep connected to the club, which has given me so much.â€

- Another young player opting for mediocracy in order to get more games. I can understand it, but why can't these starlets realize that Scholesy and Giggsy are getting older and Fergie has already said he will phase the both of them out?

To me this just means that these plaers don't believe they are good enough to make the break through and get the games at manchester United.

How much do you love Anderson and Nani for having the desire and belief to make it at the theatre of dreams?

is he any good
Yeah, he can be very good if sometimes inconsistent. He's also very young so definitely a good buy on Tottenham's part.

At least he seems to have a measure of sense. Nothing makes me more sad than a talented player going to a big four club

with the expectation of ousting the already established and world class players who are first team regulars.

Branislav Ivanovic. He had Juventus in the bag. Regular playing time at a top club. This goes doubly so for Steve Sidwell.

Did he really think he had a chance? If so, then he's delusional and needs help. Why do players do this and don't say money.

Sidwell has said several times he really thought/thinks he can get a regular berth. Does he really believe that?

He chose Spurs cuz he knows that he's not good enough for us!
Okay so I am convinced we are looking for another young talented midfielder...first Ramsey snubs us and now Dos Santos! I can't believe the European and English Champions are being rejected! Amazing!

Top class deal for Spurs and it looks like Ramos knows what he is doing as he signed Modric and Dos Santos and they will be strong challengers next season to break into the top 4 and I think they will cause problems and will fight for 4th place really well.

Selling Fletcher and bringing in Dos Santos would of been ideal for me lol but since that is not going to happen I hope we bring in another talented midfielder.
I think its brilliant when players turn down sitting on the bench for playing games. If his ambition is to play football, instead of sitting on the bench then fair play to him. If he makes it in the Premiership then he will make his move to a bigger club, albeit for more money.
Why not make the step to greatness, one step at a time, rather than risk all your potential fluffing your chance at a big club.
Just look at the players that benchwarm for Chelsea, who you can only think would have done better elsewhere.
It is strange to see players turning down a club as big as us, but he also turned down Chelsea, who are considered the biggest club in England with respect to spending money and their squad size. Every Chelsea fan will tell you they will win the Premier League easy if they stay injury free. I wouldnt be surprised if players thought that too. It is up to us to show them otherwise.

We weren't exactly injury free this season were we?
seen him play and he is good.. but inconsistent..
I don't rate him at all. He has the skill but can't apply it. Tends to lose focus after getting through defenders and then screws up. Also he will not pass unless he has absolutely no other option. He's also a ****y little ****.

i have noticed a couple of times that your comments in my opinion are way off the mark, heres why mate ... Darren Fletcher has United in his blood, he turns up for the big games time and time again, he's a consistant squad player that Sir Alex values very highly just like he does John O'shea and without these type of players we would be anywhere near as strong. Saying we should sell Fletch and should of bought Gio Dos Santos is way off the mark, he is a tricky winger/forward who is inconsistant to say the very least, im not saying i wouldnt of wanted him at United but no mate selling Fletch and bring in Dos Santos would not of been ideal in anyones books, you've got to respect the boy for the fact he left Barca to play football, after all he wouldnt be leaving Barca would he if he was playing. Good luck to the boy, but from the original post yes you have to love Ando and Nani for having belief and desire to come in and perform :)

he simply choose spurs to play regularly
and that's better for him to develop into a master footballer
