Paul Scholes and Darren Fletcher have committed their futures to Manchester United after signing new contracts with the Old Trafford outfit.

Veteran midfielder Scholes has put pen-to-paper on a one-year deal, while in-form Fletcher has been rewarded for some bright displays with a contract that binds him to the club for a further three years.

Scholes turns 34 next month and is currently sidelined for the next 10 weeks with a knee injury, but Sir Alex Ferguson has been quick to renew the services of one of his best-ever players.

Ferguson expressed his delight at both deals, with Scholes, who has been involved in eight Premier League title wins and finally got his hands on the UEFA Champions League trophy in May after missing the 1999 triumph through suspension, extending a United connection that dates back two decades.

"Paul is proof that if you look after yourself you can carry on playing and be rewarded at a club of this size," he said.

"He is 34 now and he has been here since he was 14. That tells you the desire and the ability he has to stay at the top."

Fletcher is another player to have progressed through the club's famed youth system and has been given plenty of playing time this season.
