Manchester United scout Brazil’s best playmaker who admits Old Trafford is dream move

Manchester United have registered their interest in Brazilian playmaker Everton Ribeiro and have sent scouts to watch him play for Cruzeiro according to reports.

The 24-year-old won the Brazilian league title with Cruzeiro this year and was an integral part to their title success as he currently tops the assist charts with 11 as well as having five goals to his name too.

Lancenet believe United sent scouts to watch Ribeiro ahead of making a move for him but speaking with TuttoMercatoWeb in response to the rumours, Ribeiro insisted that he had not discussed a move away from Brazil just yet.

“I have not talked to my agent yet, I asked [him] to speak only with Cruzeiro and let me concentrate only on the team,” he said.

“We still have more games and I want to end the season in the best way possible.”

Last week, Ribeiro admitted that a move to United would be a dream for him so he would certainly be interested in coming to Old Trafford if David Moyes did make a move for him.

Ribeiro is a playmaker who is known for his ability to play across the front three at the top and versatility is a trait that always puts a winger in good stead at Old Trafford.

Previously, his agent has also made it abundantly clear that a move to Europe is what Ribeiro wants in the future.

He said: ”Everton Ribeiro doesn’t want to move to a club in Eastern Europe or Qatar. We are going to avoid intermediary markets. We have a career plan for him. If Cruzeiro accept to sell him, it will be better for him to play for a big European team.”

An adaptable playmaker who can operate on the wings sounds like a remedy for United’s winger woes that have been an ongoing problem for over a year now.

The only issue with a move for Ribeiro is that Cruzeiro only own 60% of his player rights so it would involve a third party like the transfer of Carlos Tevez but at a reported €8 million, he could prove to be fantastic value.

I can't comment on whether he's much cop. but seriously: Nani, Young. . . How much more ineffective could he be than them?

I see the plan, we have Valencia on one wing, Everton on the other......so all we need are 9 more,

Bayern Jones
Benfica Royston
Paul Leeds
Eric Napoli
Tommy Ajax
Deigo Milan
Ryan Blackburn
James Galatasery
Johnny van Leverkusan

Brilliant plan!

Cruzeiro
insist no bid has been made for the 24-year-old - but his recent accolade will attract more attention.

We have all seen his name linked with Manchester United recently - and wondered if he has the credentials to be so heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.

But Cruzeiro playmaker Everton Ribeiro can now certainly suggest that he is good enough.

The 24-year-old was last night officially awarded the Player of the Season award for the Campeanato Brasileiro - following in the footsteps of some of footballs most notorious and illustrious names as the best player in the Brazilian domestic season.

His performances have helped the Belo Horizonte side to the title this season - the clubs third title in their 92 year history.

Ribeiro was at the heart of it all - with the best passing ratio in the Brazilian league his eye for a pass was second to none and was key in them romping home - away from the likes of Atletico PR and Gremio.

Cruzeiro maintain that, despite the interest in his services no bid has been made by United for the player built in the Paul Scholes mould, with director of football Alexandre Mattos stating:

“There are no offers, just speculation. Everton Ribeiro said he dreams of playing for Manchester United, then people started talking, and they said he would cost €8 million [£6.7m] - that makes no sense. We turned down a €10m [£8.3m] offer for the percentage we own and that happened halfway through the season. Of course we are responsible, and if an absurd offer for Everton Ribeiro or any other player comes, we have to sell."

The other question is over who owns him outright. It is reported that he is 60% owned by the club, and 40% by an unknown third party - United want to avoid a sticky Carlos Tevez-like mess with the player.

But the opportunity to sign the best player in the Brazilian league only comes around every once in a while.

And United might just have to try and take it.

I don't know why you're all so hyped, first rumors like this are so common and so off-base usually. Second you've never seen him play and even if you did you know he might be unproven and third- he's a brazilian midfielder, so if he does come he's probably cursed like Kleberson, Anderson and Possebon before him. I liked it better when we were linked with Fabregas.

Representative of Brazil’s Player of the Year confirms United talks have begun

Everton Ribeiro’s representative Robson Ferreira has confirmed that he has already opened conversation with Manchester United about the Brazilian’s potential move to Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old playmaker was named Brazil’s Player of the Year after he played a central role in Cruzeiro’s title winning campaign with a league best 11 assists and has since been linked with a move to Europe.

United were one of the first clubs linked with a move for Ribeiro and his representative has now confirmed that talks are already under way.

“Manchester United are interested in Everton Ribeiro,” Ferreira confirmed to Estadao.

“David Moyes has been impressed by him.

“I’ve already talked personally with a representative club for the club in England and people who actively participate in the day to day running of it and I was impressed.”

Ferreira went on to intimate that Ribeiro has simply been on another level in the Brazilian league this year and ‘deserves to be appreciated for it’, although he doesn’t go as far as to say that he is specifically looking for a move away from Cruzeiro.

He also insisted that he has dealt only with United directly so far, not Cruzeiro, and that the decision will ultimately lie at the feet of Ribeiro as to whether he moves.

In the summer, Cruzeiro reportedly rejected a fee in the region of €10 million for Ribeiro so after a fantastic domestic campaign, his price would likely be pushed upward between €15-20 million.

The question is whether United can accommodate another playmaker given that Shinji Kagawa has struggled to get game time but if Ribeiro has the versatility to play as a central midfielder, he could well be one of Moyes’ targets for January as the Brazilian league finishes in December.

The last thing we need is an attacking midfielder.

How hard is it to just focus on our one and only pathetic area of our squad and improve on it?

Jesus.
