Ferguson: Really happy

Sir Alex Ferguson was 'really happy' to see Manchester United record a 2-0 home win over Blackburn Rovers.

A Cristiano Ronaldo brace in the space of 90 seconds in the first half sent the champions to the top of the table, with Arsenal not in action until Monday.

Blackburn had David Dunn sent off in the second half and United boss Ferguson was pleased to notch a victory against a team previously unbeaten away from home in the league this season.

"They are a good side, no question about that," Ferguson told Sky Sports. "In the first half, in particular, it was an end-to-end game.

Unlucky

"The decisive moment was the header and then a quick goal after it killed them really and then we had easy possession of the ball.

"I thought the lad (Dunn) was a bit unlucky. He tried to read Saha and thought he was coming back towards goal and caught him.

"The second half was a professional performance and we kept possession well. We didn't take a great deal of risk, but we could have scored a couple more.

"I'm really happy with that result because they are a good side."

Wonderful servant

Ryan Giggs set up United's first goal, and produced moments of genuine class in the second period, with Ferguson feeling the Welsh winger has benefited from giving up international football.

Ferguson added: "He didn't play last Wednesday and now he's got a two-week break before we play Bolton.

"Retiring from international football has helped him, I don't think there's any doubt about that.

"Although he's 34 at the end of the month, you look at him today and the freshness showed. He can go on for years yet, he's a wonderful servant to us."
