FERGIE: I WON'T MEDDLE WHEN I QUIT

Sir Alex Ferguson has insisted he will make a clean break from Manchester United
when he eventually quits Old Trafford.

Fergie, who has been in charge at United for 21 glittering years, assured his
successor he has no intention of remaining at the club in a football capacity and
causing a potential conflict of interest with the new manager.

He said: "When I retire I won't take up a director of football-type role, because I
don't think that would be fair to the new manager.

"I'll have a position at the club, but it will be more of an ambassadorial role, like
Sir Bobby Charlton.

"You've got to support whoever gets the job after me because managing
Manchester United is such a hard thing to do.

"The great thing about the club is that the manager is the most important person,
and whoever comes in will realise that. Once you're ensconced at United, it
becomes really hard to leave.

"You get ingrained into the place and it gets harder to even contemplate retiring
or think about the day you won't be here.

"That will happen, of course, and it's something I'll have to face."www.dailymirror.co.uk

no! To me, Queiroz should be no more than the assistant manager at united.

It si Carlos that is bringing the whole Portuguese and South American influence in.
I wouldn't mind him!
theres a few reasons i wouldnt want him to be the #1.

Look what happened to him as Real Madrids manager.

He prefers the 4-5-1 formation

We could probably get a better manager.

Imo he's best as the #2.
it will be a very very shocking news to all the world...because Sir Alex has shown how succes can be made....and..he's a very good profesor
I'd love to get Cantona, but for that to happen the Glazers would have to leave...
It doesn't bear thinking about the day he retires from united! I hope we do get a quality replacement and not quieroz!!! :(
I can't see United being successful anymore without SAF. The club will probably go through maybe 5 or 6 managers in 5 years or something, because that's the way manageral positions are these days.

I would like either Roy Keane, Peter Schmeichel or Mark hughes to takeover. But the day SAF leaves, it will be a tremendous sad day in the history of the club.
Just like when Cloughy left Nottingham Forest in the inaugrual season of the Premier League, after he'd been at the helm for many years bringing success after success.

I'm hoping that SAF will be at United for another 21 years to come but we must find someone to fill his boots when the inevitable happens.
I was 4 years old when Fergie took the United job. I can't remember a Manchester United side not lead by Sir Alex.

It will be sad day indeed when his reign is over. Let's hope it's not for a few years yet!
