Fergie buoyed by Scholes form
Sir Alex Ferguson has been encouraged by the return to peak form of Manchester United stalwart Paul Scholes.
The former England international missed three months earlier in the season through injury and has been striving to tap into his best form.
But his display in last week's 3-0 win over Liverpool drew the plaudits from his manager, who expects the midfielder to play a key role in the team's quest for trophies.
"Last Sunday to me was a great sign for me in terms of the confidence of the team, the composure they showed in the game, I thought it was really top class and what was most rewarding for me in the game was the form of Paul Scholes," said Ferguson on Sky Sports News.
Magnificent
"After three-and-a-half months he was taking his time to get back to the real Paul Scholes form. Last Sunday to me he was head and shoulders above everyone on the pitch. I thought he was magnificent.
"That gives us great confidence for the next few weeks with Scholes' form."
United face Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday, but Ferguson also has an eye on next week's UEFA Champions League quarter-final with Roma.
Louis Saha and Darren Fletcher will definitely miss out, although the United boss also intimated he is wary about rotating his squad too heavily.
He added: "Louis Saha, as we explained last week, should be out for another two or three weeks with a hamstring injury.
"A hamstring injury is a hamstring injury and always take a bit of time.

"We're hoping Nani gets fit for tomorrow. He missed the Portugal game because of an injury to his thigh and we will have to wait and see what he's like tomorrow.
"Other than that, everyone in the squad is fit. Some have travelled fair distances. Vidic was playing in the Ukraine for Serbia, which is a long way, and Ji-sung Park played in a World Cup game for South Korea and didn't arrive back until this morning, so whether we include them, with an eye on Tuesday night's game, we will have to think about it.
"We have an eye on Tuesday because it's such an important fixture, but it doesn't lessen our thoughts about tomorrow because, after our performance last week against Liverpool, we have to use that as a barometer for the rest of the season.
"As I said some weeks ago the most consistent team will win the league and we have to prove that consistency."

Scholes will always retain his natural ability and his skill so as long as he can get back to near full fitness he will be a great asset for us in big games when we need experience and a cool head.
My dream is for Scholsey to score in the Champions League this season!!!! or in the Premier League, preferably against the rent-boys!!!
