Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is planning a £21 million bid for Olympique Lyon striker Karim Benzema.

The People says the French striker, 19, is seen as the next Thierry Henry and Ferguson has told the Manchester United moneymen to do whatever it takes to secure the deal.

United were at Lyon's Champions League clash with Rangers last week to iron out details and after Benzema scored twice in a man-of-the-match performance at Ibrox, the price rocketed.

Ferguson had hoped to land him in a player swap deal only with Louis Saha and Mikael Silvestre on the table, but after Wednesday's dazzling display he's had to add £6m.

A source close to United said: "United have had to offer more than they would have wanted for Benzema, but after his display the other night Ferguson is even more convinced he's grabbing a massive star."

Yeah, he's brilliant on Football Manager. lol

I haven't seen him play but he got rave reviews in the game at Ibrox. I'm sure United will be keeping tabs on him but I'd be surprised if we made a big money signing in January - particularly for someone who would be cup tied in the Champions League.

out of all the speculation about berbatov and anelka, benzema is the one i want to sign for us.He's a clinical finisher, amazing skill and a wicked eye for goal. But if we do sign him,are we going to play with a 4-4-3 with wayne and carlos supporting him?

Hey guys,correct me if I'm wrong......but do u think he's a better finisher than Rooney & Tevez?:p :D
