Sir Alex Ferguson secured the long-term services of three members of his Manchester United squad, then warned his title rivals more new faces are expected this summer.
With victory at Blackburn on Saturday required to put United within touching distance of back-to-back titles and a Champions League semi-final with Barcelona looming on Wednesday, confirmation that Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick and Wes Brown have agreed new deals could not be better timed.
Ferguson is certainly delighted at the way negotiations have progressed but it is the Scot's pointed addition to his news that should really have United's rivals concerned.
"We have a strong squad already and this just keeps it going," said Ferguson.
"And I would imagine there is a good possibility of stocking up again in the summer."
Given Arsenal's lack of depth has been cruelly exposed over the last few weeks and Chelsea are likely to see a host of big names come and go over the summer, the stability and strength of the Old Trafford outfit is something to be feared by the London duo.
Ferguson learned a cruel lesson last term when a lack of bodies eventually caught up with United on a bad night in the San Siro and the Scot has no intention of suffering a repeat.
"The strong squad we have built has aided us this season and this latest bit of business is definitely good news."
