Ferguson has not made many very poor decisions whilst he has been our manager.

But what do you think stand out as his poorest decisions?

For me, this probably isn't his poorest decision but is certainly a poor one in my eyes. When we were playing against Real Madrid and we eventually got knocked out of the champions league because we were thrashed.

For me the wrong decision was leaving Beckham on the bench. When he came on he scored from his freekick straight away. It was just after their "falling out".

Also letting Fortune just disappear was rather strange as he was a fairly good player. I have no idea what happened to him.

I'll get the more obvious one out of the way as well so we don't need to talk about it too much. Selling Stam.

Well many will disagree with me but i wish we gave Kleberson more of a chance.
I know many people will be like whats he on about but when i saw him in the world cup of 2002 he looked a real classy footballer. Maybe giving him another year to properly adapt and settle he might of come through for us, i remember at the time he has a lot of personal problems aswell so that all comes into it and of course we as a club were going through a period of transition. Little things that i wish Fergie might have done are ... buying Batistuta, Gazza and of course Ronaldinho, i was so gutted when he went to Barca but i later realised it wasn't Fergies fault it was that useless waste of air Peter Kenyon of whom i wish a long painful death ;) lol

Sir Alex is of course the greatest manager we have had, but he has made some significant errors. I think it is a mistake that we have still failed to replace Van Nistelrooy with another striker, I think we would of won the league sooner last season if we had a goalscoring striker in the squad. The fact that we look set to start yet another season without that extra striker we need is a worry. I think at this point we should just put the ridiculous Berbatov affair behind us and sign Huntelaar instead. The way he has fallen out with crucial members of the team like Stam and Beckham and sold them has been a mistake, maybe he should of swallowed his pride and kept them for the good of the team.

Selling Stam - he has said so himself.

Also not buying VDS when Shemichael retired. I think we would have won the CL in 04 if we had VDS instead of Howard or Carrol (whoever was in goal vs Porto)

I also think getting rid of Veron was a mistake. He did somwat flop with us but I think had he adapted eventually he would have been immense. Same with Forlan.

We won the league the exact year we sold Ruud. I wish we would've bought Batistuta, and kept Stam and Forlan a little longer.

Fergie has made many poor decisions as manager.

Many players he has bought have been catastrophic but his worst?

1. Selling Stam
2. Letting Sheringham go too early
3. Getting rid of Ruud

As for VdS, we cannot blame Fergie for that. VdS chose to go to Fulham and not us, he was approached by us but the skinflints did not offer him as much as Fulham did.

I actually agree with a lot of this thread.

I think that getting rid of Forlan was too early.

People say he was a flop but I liked him. Yes, he didn't have the finishing of Van Nistelrooy. But his general play was excellent. I also agree somewhat with Drew. I thought that Kleberson looked a classy player, but we didn't give him enough chances to show it (though, he did have and still has personal problems.)

We don't know yet, but I think that not giving Pique and Rossi a fair chance could be a mistake.

Not signing Van Der Sar straight after Schmeichel is a mistake. And obviously Stam.

But tbh, I can't think of any more off the top of my head.

A bad manager makes poor decisions all the time.

A good manager makes some poor decisions and some good.

A great manager makes great decisions even if they look like poor decisions.

In Fergie we trust !!!! He's Great !!!! :D

NO bad decisions... every decision SAF has made has led to ANOTHER title and ANOTHER cup in the long term no matter how they looked in the short.........long live SIR ALEX
he made a few dodgy signings in his twenty one years yet name a manager with half his time in with less ? no one will come close to his achievements in my lifetime

his mistakes have resulted in 10 premier league titles, 2 champions league titles, 5 FA Cups, 1 ECWC, 2 League Cup

Whatever his mistakes are, I can live with them.

I usually don't fault Fergie when it comes to tactics. He knows more about it than almost everybody on the planet. Only a handful of managers can outwit Fergie tactically.

What I fault Ferfgie for is his favouritism and his transfer dealings.

He has his favourite players, who are sometimes in the squad ahead of more deserving players. He also seems to have more faith with the likes of Fletcher.

As for transfers, selling Stam was his biggest mistake and he's admitted as much.

Bosnich, Tailibi, Barthez, Veron are some horror purchases.

Another factor is that we seem to buy players when their are super expensive. We could have bought Rio for 18mil when he left West Ham and instead we bought him for a world record 29million for a defender only 18 months later.

In addition, we were chasing VDS before he sined for Juve, but we let him move to Fulham and play there several seasons before signing him. Utterly inexplicable.

Buying slave for 12mil looks like very good business though, eh?
