Hell, get rid of him. Lets get rid of Park and O'Shea as well. I mean, squad players aren't important are they?

But seriously, I can't see the problem that others have with him.

He, along with the likes of Park and O'Shea, are important cogs in the machine. He always performs to a good standard when he comes in (with only 1 or 2 bad games a season. I can only remember the West Ham game being a bad game from him) and is an important part of the squad.

Considering we usually play 4-3-3 away in the CL. That means we can play the 3 central midfielders, lets say Anderson, Scholes and Carrick, and then play the other two, Hargreaves and Fletcher in the league. (Not necessarily my personal preference. Its just a random choice)

Hes a good player and is certainly good enough to play for us.

I'm glad he has managed to turn the majority into the minority, and I hope he stays. Though if he does decide to go, I will understand why and wish him well.

I never feel he has the talents to win us a game. If we need someone to step up, it can never be Fletcher.
Fletcher will never and has never been a matchwinner.

But neither has and neither will Carrick. The likes of Carrick and Fletcher do the work that goes unnoticed. (I would also add Hargreaves but he takes some fantastic free-kicks and showed lately that when he plays on the right, be it at RB or on the Wing, he can produce a match-winning cross ;))

It is true that he hasn't been great in pre-season. But hes a CM who's been asked to play on the right-wing. He doesn't have the traits of a right winger. But he did set up Rooneys goal in the Aberdeen game. Lee Martin hasn't been great in pre-season either. The only thing hes done is score a goal. If he hadn't scored a goal, he would be slated as well. (Obviously not in this thread, :p but in another)

But saying that, remember the 06/07 season when he played against Liverpoo on the right and was fantastic?

He is good enough to play for us, and should be kept. But if he does want to go, then we should respect him enough to let him leave. I would understand why, thank him and wish him well.

but Fletch is Scotland captain already.
Whats the obsession with everyone saying Fletcher is Scotland captain? Its not just ^ but a couple of people.

Fletcher SHOULD be Scotland captain but isn't. Barry Ferguson is Scotland captain, and Stephen McManus seems to be vice-captain ;)

Every successful side needs the mix of flair and workers, Fletcher and O'shea are the workers in the squad, Ronaldo Rooney and Tevez are the flair players. People need to understand the game a little better, yes he may not be the most talented player in the squad, but when he's called upon he never lets us down. He always plays well in the big games unlike some of the favoured flair players ... the boy should be respected a little more, it's very easy to tell which fans go and watch United to those who just come on this site because we're the most famous club in the world, Fergie values these players as much as he does our top goal scorer or our captain, everyone has a role to play otherwise they wouldnt be at United.
Great post. I agree with every word.

Fletcher set to earn himself new four-year deal

Sir Alex Ferguson is set to offer Darren Fletcher a new contract. The Scotsman's
current deal expires at the end of the season – but the hardworking midfielder
has impressed so far this season and has scored both of United's Premier League
goals to date. Negotiations are underway, with Fletcher set to commit his long-
term future to Old Trafford. The Scottish international's future has long been the
discussion of debate.

Often criticised by the Old Trafford boo-boys, Fletch has avoided the temptation to
seek regular first-team football at another top-flight club and has worked hard at United.

He has taken advantage of the summer absentee crisis at the club and has
enjoyed an impressive start to the new campaign. He looked a little rusty in the
Community Shield - missing a sitter from three yards out - but has responded
superbly with goals against Newcastle and Pompey in the league.

Ferguson regards the 24-year-old has a hugely useful squad player and Fletcher
is prepared to commit his future to the European champions. Discussions are
taking place and the player is expected to pen a new, lucrative four-year deal in the near future.
Good news.

Hope he signs it soon.

Anyway, this thread keeps coming back! :p One popular topic is Fletcher obviously. ;)

Well, I agree that he is the most improved player so far...

Still, I'm starting to see his worth...
Right, you can't fool us.

Who are you, and what have you done with the real RFR?

Did we ever lose a game with the Carrick - Fletchinho midfield combo?
No, I don't think so. I can't think of any games where we did.

I think their partnership works really well together, and atm that would be my preffered partnership.
