[QUOTE
]DARREN Fletcher has vowed to stay patient and fight for a place at United despite rumblings of an imminent transfer window bid from Birmingham City."I never heard anything about Birmingham being interested," he said.

"I am still happy playing for Manchester United. I want to be here for a long time. Looking to the short-term this season, I would like to win a few trophies and, hopefully, going a few steps further than last year.

"I am not thinking of going elsewhere. We will see how things pan out at the end of the season in terms of games played and what you have contributed to the squad.
But I am not thinking about that just now. My only focus is on being ready when the manager needs me and being able to perform for United

The only transfer rumour I'd heard about Fletcher is that Alex McLeish was interested in taking him to Birmingham but he seems to be concentrating on McFadden at the moment.

I think Fletcher will stick around until the summer at least and then consider his options.

Another squad player, he did alright when called upon.
From wat i see, he is not as good as carrick in terms of passing ability, not as good as hargreaves in tackling, not as good as anderson in creativity, but he is still useful to the team. He got to find out wat he can provide for the team, coz i find that he is not expressing himself as much on the field compare to when he first broke into the first team squad
he may not be as talented as other midfielders we have, but his work rate is still admirable

Fletcher is a true red ! He deserves to stay ! He is a good squad player and last season he was nothing short than...well , very good !
"Very good" is an overstatement..

As I have said before, Fletcher may have done heroics for Scotland but he is never our key player and never will.

And in the middle of the park, he can't over-shadow Scholes, Anderson, Hargreaves and Carrick.

On the right wing, he can't out-bid Ronaldo, Nani or even Park.

There is just no place for him unless there is a serious injury crisis, which probably explains why he is not even on the bench often.

To be fair to him, we should wish him well and let him go if a decent offer comes by.

no it's not overstatemnet ! at our loss to arsenal at home he was our best player with constantly running and delivering very good crosses ( a cross from which ronaldo blasted lehman in the face) against Roma at OT he put Totti in his back pocket and so on . Last season when called upon he was very good and and had a very good season imo

I agree he did very well for us in those games you mentioned; I don't deny.

But sporadic performances may not be good enough. Even Kleberson was flying in one particular game, I remember.

Unfortunately, he indeed has no place currently in our squad barring some serious injuries, as I mentioned.

sure he is no a match winner of first starter, but he is a decent sub when someone needs a rest. ambrosini a-like player...never moans but does his job, and we need a few players like that

Well currently in midfield we have: Ronaldo, Anderson, Hargreaves, Carrick, Scholes, Giggs, Nani, and Park. Fletcher could still be useful, but we should probably wait until summer if we're going to do anything.

I think Fletcher is useful as long as he is willing to keep doing what hes doing and just play as a backup when were short through injuries. If he wants to leave in the summer though we should let him, hes not exactly indispensable.

The difference between United and the likes of Liverpool etc is the likes of Fletcher and Park and Brown. They are not and never will be world class but they are happy to stick around and wait for their chance and when called upon they do the job, no-one expects them to do the job of a Scholes or a Vidic but they are the difference between winning titles and not winning titles because of points dropped against weaker teams.

I like Fletcher, I think he is quality and is very reliable, not flashy but more consistent than Carrick, he never stops running and stays involved. If we were to lose guys like Fletcher, who would happily sign up to take his role? We should be glad that there are guys who love the club enough to stay for 20 games a year max even though they could walk into plenty of other Prem teams as a starter.
