Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster is expected to make his comeback from injury on Thursday.

He has not played at all this season after damaging his cruciate knee ligaments last summer.

However he has now returned to training and is expected to play againstMiddlesborough for the United reserves

And, despite being sidelined, the 24-year-old has impressed Sir Alex Ferguson with his attitude during a difficult period in his career.

"You need a lot of determination and sacrifice during a time like this," said the United boss.

"Most of the work has been done by himself. You have to get down to it. You need to work hard and not take days off.

"Ben has listened to advice from specialists. At his age it is not a problem. If he was in his 30s it would be different altogether.

"We may have had to rush him back a bit. But he is young and they are doing the right thing with him."

this is good news for us and hope he comes back to top form!!!!!!!! (and i change part of this news..so i am not qouting the source)

This guy is class he had arguably one of the worst defences ever to have graced the premiership in front of him and still managed to get some clean sheets. He oozes class, didnt realise he was 24. No.1 for united, then No.1 for england too.

Welcome back Foster. I still think its is still too early to judge if he will be number 1 for us. Its between him and TK to take. A loan move for him after the recovery will be good for his development but only to a premiership team. Either him or Tk will be loan out i think and i prefer it to be Foster since he needs more game than TK seeing Van Der Sar is still here with us. Whatever it is, a huge well done to him for overcoming the long injury. Good to have him back in the team.

Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster is set to end his long injury lay-off with a reserves appearance against Middlesbrough on Thursday.
The 24-year-old, who has yet to make a competitive appearance for the Red Devils despite having joined from Stoke three years ago, underwent knee surgery last summer and after undergoing months of rehabilitation has been named in the squad to face Boro at the Marston's Arena in Northwich.

First-team fringe players Chris Eagles, Gerard Pique and Danny Simpson are also included.

Welcome back Foster!

It's taken him a long time to come back from injury and I'm sure he'll be delighted to be playing again.

Keeping a clean sheet is not important tonight - he just needs to last the 90 minutes!

Altho u change part of the news, are ue the one who created it in the first place?
The accreditor collects his own information & is the very first one to let the whole world know about it. Imagine if somebody claims to hve done one of ur work, how will ue feel?

Anyway back to the topic, I would really want to know how Foster fare in a United shirt! Seeing his string of fantastic saves for a relegation-threatened team who possessed the worst defence in Premiership last season, I really hve high regards for him. So how would he performs when he has the current best back-4 in Premiership, or possibly Europe, in front of him? Last but not least, congratulations on ur victory over ur hard-fought injury young lad!

Nice to hear. Hopefully we can get him a nice loan team for next season and groom him to take over in the future...which I doubt though.

Well Man Utd Reserves won 2-1. Don't know what the goal Foster let in looked like, but from what I read, he wasn't troubled much at all in the match. Nice to see him in game action though, that's all that matters at this point.

will be good to see a young keeper come through. I know we signed him from another club, but he was young, so in a way we have nurtured him, where as in the past we've had to buy our way to a good gk

Sir Alex looks for club to Foster Ben

Source: uk.eurosport.yahoo.com

Sir Alex Ferguson is considering sending goalkeeper Ben Foster on loan, following his recovery from knee ligament damage. Foster, 24, played 90 minutes for the reserves on Thursday night after a 10-month absence and came through the match unscathed.

A number of clubs have made enquiries about the England international's availability - he spent the last two seasons at Watford - and Ferguson said: "We might put him out on loan until the end of the season.

"I think that would be good for Ben and I will have a chat with him early next week.

"We have already had a few enquiries for him from the Championship and will consider these options."

With England current number one David James visiting Old Trafford with Portsmouth on Saturday, Ferguson has reminded national team boss Fabio Capello of Foster's qualities.

"Everyone recognises that he is potentially the top goalkeeper England have available," said the United boss. "I think he is above them all.

"He came through the reserve game without any problems. We are very pleased, because he is a fantastic prospect."

Ben did well last night, looked sharp even though he didn't have to make any spectacular saves, he did the simple things right and that's what we need.

Something I did notice though is a couple of times when the ball was passed back to him he tried a dummy to fool the striker closing him down. It looked clever when he pulled it off but one time he was almost caught out.

But all in all, good to see Ben back

With VDS and special K unavailable, Ben Foster could possible start in the first team against Derby and Heaton on the bench.

IN FOSTER WE TRUST!
