Gary Neville and Rio Ferdinand have been named in England's starting line-up for Wednesday night's friendly with Greece at Old Trafford.

The pair will be given valuable run-outs ahead of Sunday's Premiership opener against Fulham, having endured an injury-punctuated pre-season.

Neville suffered a calf injury at the World Cup, and failed to make a single appearance during United's warm-up games due a recurrence of the knock.

Ferdinand, meanwhile, tweaked an ankle during United's triumphant Amsterdam Tournament campaign, and has only managed 63 minutes of friendly action.

Despite their lack of action both players have trained with England all week, and have sufficiently impressed new England coach Steve McClaren to make the starting XI.

Fellow Reds Wes Brown, Kieran Richardson and Ben Foster are all substitutes.
