I see comments around the forum in particular threads about genuine fans and football fans who turn up at Old Trafford for a tourist visit, or going in 10 minutes late and disrupt the row or here and a member thinks this United player is overrated and his/her support is questioned.

So for you .... what do you regard as a genuine United fan?

One that supports united what ever happens to them, (ie if they were ever to become crap/get relagated or something stupid, they still love them just as much.) and also knows some stuff about the history, traditions etc.


I hate when people say im not a true United fan cause i dont go to every game.......how about they try living in ****ing Aberdeen with no money . I do the best i can to support them.

some1 who as solsk said there sticks with them no matter what, united have been successful for my lifetime but were poor there about 2/3 yrs ago by our standards.

did any1 notice a few 'united' fans went into hiding only to reappear about this time last year!!!

only the individual really knos if they are a real fan or just 1 for show

i get sh1t from lads sayin i only follow united because their good, but i get the highs and lows of followin them and genuinely love the team,

fact is most real united fans are the 1s who hate the fair weather fans the most!!!

a Genuine united fan goes to the games whoever there playing if its derby or liverpool
dnt stop watching them coz there not doing aswell
doesnt surpport them just coz there the best but coz they were brought up like that
doesnt leave 10 minutes before the game at any match

I agree one hundred percent, Im currently trying to save money so I can one day go to old trafford, hopefully one day I will have enough money to go and fullfill my dream of seeying the lads live.

Most people generally use the term " genuine Supporter " or "real supporter" to put down others who they see as not being a "genuine" or "real" supporter because they support the team in different ways.

Ask a million supporters.....get a million different answers.
None will be wrong.
None will be right.
Everyone supports the team in their own way.

In my opinion there's no such thing as a "genuine" or "real" supporter, if you are behind the team on the pitch you are supporting them so you are a supporter.

As for the day tripping tourist, they're not there to "support" the team they're there to "see" the teams/sights on their day out. You can spot them a mile off listening to their iPods, talking to their friends and taking hundres of photos/video clips of anything that moves.

Well, it's weird how I became attached to this club. Watched them on T.V when I was little and have 'followed'(i guess cant use supported really) them ever since. Having got many items of merchandise and been to OT twice. Unfortunately not to see a game. One day I'd love to see a game, but having said all this they are not my number 1 side...

As SAL said it's really hard to determine a 'true/real/genuine' fan. My idea is someone who loves the club, isnt afraid to constructively criticise, shows emotion and passion for their team, would shed tears of joy or sadness...but really...so many different angles.

Obviously there are different levels of dedication but I think a genuine fan is anyone that supports the club through thick or thin, gets depressed when we lose and overjoyed when we win i.e. has a real emotional attachment to the club.

I think one of the qualities of a genuine Fan is someone who thinks about the club 24/7, Who lives, breaths United supports them no matter what!

I live in Ireland and me and my mates go as offend as we can, goign to the Pomey next month, I know guys that put United and i am one of them, that put United 1st in everything and my G'friend knows that!

Genuine fan should always to a fan to that club to the die he/she dies and more!

Having the club in ur blood is a genuine fan in my opinon!

if your worried about being a utd fan truly and you live in a different country or have no money to go watch games or cant even afford a tv to watch them. then simply don't panic, just look at a chelsea fan in the pub analysis him, scan his manor ism towards the game and then do the complete opposite and im sure your be a true football fan

A real fan huh....hmmm...i suppose it'd be supporting them during the highs&lows. I've supported them ever since i was about 7 or 8 years old....although i've never actually been to one of their matches...but i still consider myself a true fan.

I don't think you have to put united before your GF to be a true fan.. cuz i don't.

I think to be a genuine fan you need to be able to list the whole united squad, not including reserves, academy or the bitches.
