Ryan Giggs believes home advantage will see Manchester United clinch a place in the Champions League quarter-finals at the expense of Lyon. The teams are locked at 1-1 going into the second leg after Carlos Tevez cancelled out the opener from French striker Karim Benzema.

"The goal has put us in a good position because we are strong at home and we know we have a good chance," said Giggs.

"It was a hard game against Lyon but we showed a lot of character and eventually got the goal.

"This team never gives up and we definitely have more options than last season."

Certainly United's form in the group stages could hardly have been better as they look to emulate the class of 1999.

They managed to get their hands on the trophy with a nail-biting victory against Bayern Munich which secured a legendary treble of Premier League, FA Cup and European Cup.

United won their group at a canter, recording five straight victories against Sporting Lisbon, Dynamo Kiev and Roma.

They then drew with Roma in the return game in a dead rubber as qualification had been assured.

Giggs, 34, made his 100th Champions League appearance in France and is intent on adding to that impressive tally.

He is hoping to shake off the effects of a nagging calf strain and play a part against Lyon.

Giggs said: "I am happy to have reached this milestone. It means a lot to me.

"Now it is done I can concentrate on playing a few more."

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson could turn to striker Louis Saha in a bid to break Lyon down.

Saha's fellow countryman Patrice Evra says his team-mate is determined to get a run of games under his belt.

"We've got Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez but we need one more striker to win trophies this season," Evra told the club's website.

"Louis is the right guy for that job. In training he has been unbelievable.

"He looks sharp, strong and, most importantly, angry. You can see it in his eyes. He wants to do well.

"Louis has a strong mentality because he has suffered quite a few injuries, but he's still here and wants to do well.

"Now I hope his injuries are behind him. We need him if we are going to win trophies this year."

Hopefully it would be something like 7-1 trashing AS Roma at Old Trafford this Tuesday.......
