Ryan Giggs has admitted that a Manchester United player is not certain to win the PFA Player of the Year award.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side are firm favourites to win the Premier League this season and a number of Red Devils stars are in contention for the prestigious individual prize.

Cristiano Ronaldo will be hoping to lift the trophy for a third successive year, while Serbian defender Nemanja Vidic is also among the front-runners.

Giggs may also be considered after a superb campaign but the Welshman has also been impressed by Liverpool duo Steven Gerrard and Xabi Alonso and Chelsea's Frank Lampard.

"Gerrard and Alonso have been terrific this season," Giggs told United Review.

"Frank Lampard has had another good season as well so there are a lot of players who have done really well."

Giggs admits it would be an incredible achievement for United to hold on to top spot this term and draw level with Liverpool on 18 league titles.

"Obviously it would be brilliant because 15 years ago I don't think anyone would even have dreamed it would be possible," said the 35-year-old.

"But I think probably it means more to the fans.

"It is not our motivation. You don't look back on records until you have finished your career."
