Giggs: No excuses
Ryan Giggs has rejected the suggestion that Manchester United's defeat to Bolton came about because they could not cope with the physical approach of Gary Megson's side.
Bolton won a bruising battle 1-0 at The Reebok Stadium last weekend but Giggs insists United only had themselves to blame after a disappointing performance.
The Welshman does not believe United will be rattled by any future opponents who aim to use the same aggressive tactics.
"I think too much can be read into just how physical it was against Bolton. The bottom line is simple - we didn't play well enough," Giggs told the Sunday Express.
"It had nothing to do with the tackles flying in, we just didn't perform like we were doing before the international break.
Not soft
"We are not bothered about the physical stuff. We're not exactly soft in training and everyone wants to take that into a game.
"Over the years we've seen different teams come to Old Trafford with varying tactics.
"They try to kick you, they try to get people behind the ball. It's up to us to try and combat that and to get back on the right lines."
United's loss to Bolton allowed Arsenal to move clear at the top of the Premier League, but Giggs is looking forward to a close title race, with Chelsea and Liverpool also expected to challenge.
"All the teams that you would expect to be up there at the top are involved," he said.
"It could come down to how teams handle injuries and the Champions League games when they come around next year.
"Teams are going to take points off each other and so you have just got to look after yourselves."
I know I keep saying it....but if Keane was on the pitch against Bolton I could have seen what did happen happen.....
It was pitiful.......
It is now up to Hargreaves to step up and show us that gritty determination and tenacious tackling that everyone was raving about.....
And Anderson must start instead of Carrick.....no contest imho.....
