Good Heavens good Evans.

We all know about young Jonny Evans, nothing more refreshing than a young'un breaking through and making a name for himself at your beloved club. I'm just a little worried that the kid mightn't progress and reach his amazing potential unless he's playing the game on a weekly basis. We already have 2 out of the top 5 center halfs in the world at the club ahead of him. My only concern is Rio has 4 good years ahead of him and 7.
It would be a waste to leave this kid go, but an even bigger waste having a potential world class center half on the bench every week.

So i ask you whats your thoughts, do we play him just when Rio or Vida is injuried or banned. I just think it's a shame having this kid warm the bench. I'm gonna be bold and say that he can be better than Rio ever was in about 5 years. Do we leave this kid rot on the bench and play only when someone is injuried, do we play him on the right back spot but that would stop the progress of Rafael.

I know people won't agree with this and people will just say he'll make our team in a few years but i just hate seen good kids starved of first team action. I know it's a good thing that we have three amazing center halfs to pick from but this is a young man's career we could be messing with. Can you see Fergie selling Rio or Vidic and bringing this kid in, stranger things have happened eh.

What do you think?

I just think that Jonny Evans has to be patient..
He's playing at Man United, who have Rio and Vidic as first choice Centre Backs, some competition..

He's only 21 and has to acknowledge the fact that he has years of football ahead of him and that at United it's going to be hard to break into the 1st team so early in his career..

He will always play in the Cup games and will probably play more regularly next season..
Rio will always have that back problem so he will get plenty of chances to develop his ability..

Rio or Vidic won't be sold, seriously not Rio anyway..
Fergie will do everything he can to stop Vidic from moving, but I can see Vidic going to Serie A to play with Ac Milan at some stage in his career..!!

Why would he 'rot' on the bench?
and whats wrong with having 'potential world class center half on the bench every week'?
We need top players throughout the squad.

Evans will get games as he has shown this season. Not sure on the stats but I think he has played 25 games, which is a lot and he will surely feature in coming weeks. He has come in for Rio and Vidic when asked and always performed excellently. United are battling in so many cups that of course he will get a lot of games in a season. Evans is teh future of the club and he will stick arouond being a squad player and eventually a first choice centre back. Fergie wont let him leave as shown last summer, and Evans would be insane to leave.

We already have an Evans thread btw ;) in case you want to have a look>http://www.manutdtalk.com/forums/man-utd-chat/13964-jonny-evans-thread.html
he's really got great potential at old trafford. he should expect about 20 games per year, a fixture in the domestic cups, plus replacing rio or vidic when they are injured or need a rest and i think that would suit him well. he's 21, and looking assured at the best club in the world. most players move around a bit, and find their best club at about 26, when they are at their peak. rio is 30 and has maybe 5 more years at the top, which would put evans well on course to step in aged 25/6 if his progression continutes as we so hopes. he will very much understand the magnitude of the club, and i'm sure will be happy to wait for a few years for his chance as first choice.
with all the matches we seem to be playing over the past couple of seasons no doubt johnny will feature in alot of them no matter if the starters are rio and vidic. injuries, suspensions loss of form you name it will probably happen in the season. It sort of reminds me when chelsea had gallas, terry and carvhalo all world class center backs.
Evans has the potential to be the best center back in the world in 5 years IMO for someone so young he shows great composer in tight matches(both Chelsea games) and it seems like hes happy to wait for his break here witch is great also! it says alot about the lad that Fergie turned down a 10 million pound bid from Sunderland for him how many youngsters would he have done that for? every time hes come in hes done well you wouldn't even notice that Rio or Vida isint playing! hes also a regular for N.Ireland at right back so its an added bonus that he can play there too

so to answer your question i think we should keep it as it is!as Jazz says hes already played in over 20 games witch is quite abit for a 3rd choice center back

You're only saying that because you have read the fake newspaper report last week about Milan being interested in Vidic.

Fergie is the best man manager ever to have graced the planet, and knows exactly how to deal with young players. The only thing we have to worry about is what will happen if Fergie retires when Evans is still progressing. If reports are to believed, Fergie is leaving when Evans is only 23!

Fergie also has no hesitation to move elder players on if he thinks there is a young kid who can come in and do a better job, he's done it plenty of times before.
He's started 9 League games already this season. Assuming he's fit for Fulham he'll replace Vidic and get his 10th start, thus qualifying him for a medal if we win the League if he hasn't already got enough. If that happens I really can't see him leaving United, once players have a taste of winning the League they tend to want more of it, and where are his chances better than at United?

He'd certainly forget any approaches from the likes of Sunderland . . .

That's exactly what i was thinking because Fergie is the type of man that buds careers. We all have been shocked in the past with some of Fergie's sledgings ( Stam, RVN, Becks ). If he see's a hungry kid that has potential they will get there chance and thats why Fergie is the best manager in the business.

Could you see him selling a first Center halfs to gain cash to strenghten another position? I'm just saying stranger things have happened.
evans has the potential to be a star defender...i'm starting to feel that evans will get more games from rio...from the absence of rio backward, evans and vidic have been consisten for us and continue not conceding goal at the back....vidic and evans for the future manutd centre back...
He has plenty of time to progress and learn yet. He should not be ahead or vidic or rio at the moment but he is a great replacement for either and he will still learn loads just by training with them and the great offensive players at united as this stage. I dont think week in week out action would be great for him yet because he is not used to playing at the highest level all the time yet. Im sure he'll be slowly nurtured into the role as he gets older and better. If he is ready to take over a starting spot within the next 18 months/2years, he will but dont count out rio just yet. I hope to see rio at his best next season moreso than evans starting because rio is class.

Evans IS fullfilling his potential and possibly more at united at the moment so he can have no complaints. I am sure he will get his minuted next season too. ;-) Lets just hope he continues to be great next season. Its performances of the highest level on a consistant basis which will have him knocking for a starting birth and if he does this everytime he plays, fergie will not let it go unnoticed so worry not! :D

Doesn't matter about starts, a player making 10 sub appearances is legible to get a medal.

No.
The lad has plenty of time and gets plenty of games in my opinion. You've got to remember he's only just 21 thats very young for a central defender. He is obviously progressing well as he is, and you have to remember Rio is 30 now, so as he ages there will be more opportunities for Evans until he eventually replaces him.

I think he will spend his career at United and be a really great defender for us.
