Laporta announces Rijkaard to be replaced by Guardiola

Joan Laporta has revealed that Frank Rijkaard will leave the Club at the end of the 2007-08 season. Current Barça B coach, Josep Guardiola, will take over the reins of the first team.

Joan Laporta spoke to reporters after a Board meeting on Thursday afternoon. He confirmed that Frank Rijkaard will leave the Club at the end of June and be replaced by Josep Guardiola.

I thought they may of brought in a big name e.g. Mourinho but no, I think Rijkaard had a poor season and didn;t win the league last season either so had it coming!

Its been in the rumour mill for a while, that he'd be likely to take over. Not a surprise. The players really let Rijkaard down.
Mourinho's style of football doesn't really suit Barcelona.

I don't really see why Guardiolas taking over.

I mean, I may be proved wrong, but its a bit risky as hes only been in charge of one 'outfit', and that was Barcelona's B team and only for 12 months.

They would have been better with a much more experienced manager imo.

But I feel sorry for Rijkaard. He deserved better.

manutd004 i know where your comming from, but it's a bit like keane taking over here Guardiola is a god in barca and has not olnly managed youth teams ad b teams he's also enhanced talents like messi giovanni dos santos bojan etc he's a good young coach by all the counts and has mass popularity

Wow, it was always going to happen but its the manager merry go round again.
The speculation will start about whether he will go to the Prem and what the
likes of Scolari and Mourihno will do.

Guardiola was a great player for them, so Id expect him to add some steel
to the team and to shed a few of the 'stars'

I hope they do well in La Liga next season. Ive always loved what their teams
encapulate on the field. Ive follwed them for a good 20 years now

What a way to treat the manager who two seasons ago led you to become Champions League winners. It is quite sad to see the disloyalty being displayed by modern football clubs.

I hear that Rijkaard is getting the sack, because he lost the dressing room.
