The Man Utd squad was clearly not ready for the start of this season, which is why we dropped so many points at the start and were playing so badly.

At the start of this season Fergie knew that Saha was injured and Solskjaer was about to retire, yet he took the decision to sell the outstanding italian Giuseppe Rossi for quite little money. We started the season with only one striker, Rooney, and once he got injured in the first match we were well and truly stuffed.

We finished the first game of the season against Reading with O'shea playing up front, which is a pretty embarrasing situation for a club the size of Manchester United. God knows what we would have done if the FA had blocked the Tevez deal. We would have had O'shea up front for the first six matches.

The reason we have failed to beat teams like Reading and Man City this season despite totally dominating the games is because Tevez has been playing up front on his own which has not worked and will never work. Tevez drops deep to pick up the ball and plays more like an attacking midfielder, so there was absolutely no-one in the opposition penalty box.

If Giuseppe Rossi had been playing in those games we would have won those matches and would be strolling to the league title now. Don't tell me that the player wanted to leave, Daniel Alves has wanted to leave Sevilla for the past three years but he is still there. Do not forget that we were extremely lucky to beat Tottenham and Everton with two lucky goals so it could have been even worse.

If we fail to win the league this year it is entirely the fault of Fergie.

i think you are really becoming over the top with those threads mate - wait for the season to end - then we'll discuss it... you'll only put a wrath of everyone on your back mate

oh and - of course fergie will be blamed - he is responsible for success and for failures imo... but we owe him big time - he's bought us for life with his achivements - in fergie we trust

You seem to be repeating yourself superguy. I think everyone on this forum is quickly becoming aware of your opinions.

Personally I think if we finish 2nd this season it will be largely down to the last minute equaliser Arsenal scored at the Emirates.

Admittedly, our lack of strikers was a concern for me at the start of the season but considering Ronaldo has scored more goals than any striker in the Premiership I think your concerns about our front line are unfounded.

Between them Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez have scored over 50 goals this season. Of more concern to me is the lack of goals coming from our other players - Rio Ferdinand is outscoring all our central midfield players this season!!!

From SkySports August 1st -

United have Rossi option
Red Devils can buy-back Italian striker

Manchester United will have the option to buy-back Giuseppe Rossi in the future, manager Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed.

Villarreal have signed Rossi for £6million after the Italian Under 21 striker decided he needed regular first-team football this season.

Rossi has signed a six-year deal with Villarreal and will replace former United striker Diego Forlan at the Spanish club.

The 20-year-old could find himself back at Old Trafford in a few years after Ferguson confirmed the clause in the contract.

Ferguson did his best to try and persuade Rossi to stay, but is content with the option to bring him back to United in the future.

"We have put in a clause in the contract, so maybe he will come back to us at some stage," Ferguson told MUTV.

"We wish Giuseppe well and we know he will do well at Villarreal.

"It was a difficult decision to let him leave. I had several meetings with him to try and convince him that he would get plenty of football with us this season and all he needed was a bit of patience.

"But, having been on loan last season, he wanted first-team football all the time."

And you think he can get first team football ALL THE TIME here with Rooney and Tevez around?? :D :D :D

The slow start to the season was not Fergie's fault.
Rooney was injured when Sonko (I think) landed on
his foot. That was unlucky. I remember watching that
game in Las Vegas at some obscene hour and Reading
'parked the team bus' in front of their goal. The City game
was just unlucky. Tevez was still adjusting to the team came
very close on a few occasions.

You keep mentioning Rossi....who is a good player but is no
where near Rooney's level. Fergie didn't decide to sell Rossi.
Rossi wanted to leave to get first team football so he left,
simple as that. At least Fergie was shrewd enough to put
the buy back clause in the contract.

Coming out with statements like blame fergie if we come
second is wrong imo. Anyway the season isnt over and
we are just a point behind Arse. As someone above said,
wait till the end of the season for threads like this.
Too many If's and But's at this point in time.

Fergie decides who to buy and sell, and who plays in matches. If you only blame the players for bad performances and results, THEN WHAT IS THE MANAGER GETTING PAID A FORTUNE FOR?

The culprit was Michael Duberry who just got back to full training from.... injury.

^What pointless? He's merely pointing out to the fact that Michael Duberry's the one who injured Rooney instead of Ibrahima Sonko. Something that Jazz16 isn't really clear about so versa's juz' helping him to sort things right! Ur comments are always very insulting, either to other members over this forum or United players such as Wazza for eg!

I would like to apologise unreservedly for my harsh response to the post from Versa. I realise that such a critical comment from myself was unnecessary, and I will try to be much more responsible in the future. I certainly have not set out out to try and be unpopular.

I do believe that this thread is a credible topic that should be discussed and I welcome all opinions.

a great attitude - it reminds me of me - just as i said - you are like mine alter -ego ;) - but if we do win the league - will you open a thread in which you praise, fergie, fergie and no one but fergie

i'd never blame fergie if the players blew it this season.

to be honest i think every1 at united has as much respect 4him as we as supporters do and couldn't question his decisions etc....

because although he didnt win things straight away from taking over he is has won trophies after trophies since the first piece of silverware.
