I can't quite work out why SkyBet have Gundogan at 5/1 to join Arsenal in January while the nearest clubs in the betting are United and City at 20/1 and Chelsea at 28/1. . . I know that bookies often mess around with odds based on very little credible information but why do they have them so short? Suddenly because Arsenal sign Ozil virtually unopposed on deadline day they become front-runners for every major piece of world class talent in Europe looking for a move?. . . Load of shite.

Gundogan hasn't played since August, so he certainly does have a problem. He needs to heal, then get back into the Dortmund team and pick up right where he left off. If he goes looking for a move in January, to a club that is well stocked in the midfield area, then that's only going to make things worse for him. When he does recover and gets back into the Dortmund team, even if he plays brilliantly for the rest of the campaign, he's not guaranteed a place in Germany's squad because they have a ridiculous amount of depth in midfield.
For central midfielders to partner Schweinsteiger they only have Khedira who isn't as good as Gündogan and Kroos is far better as an attacking midfielder than he is as a central one.

Gündogan is more than good enough to walk back into the Germany side when he returns from injury.

I was replying to the idea of being deterred away from Barca in the summer, not winter. Gundogan has a better reputation, is more experienced, and is currently better than Thiago. He would get more playing time than Thiago. Thiago was in a stage of development hoping to break free from that at Bayern. That is why he left. It's a different case from Gundogan.

In the Winter I agree that it would be risky for Gundogan to move to Barca in case he doesn't hit the heights he hit at Dortmund. In the summer, there would be no problem as the next World Cup would be 4 years away.

Sorry for the confusion, but I assumed a winter transfer was never going to happen.

Arsenal and Man Utd given huge boost in race to sign Dortmund star Ilkay Gundogan

ARSENAL and Manchester United have been handed a boost in the race to sign Ilkay Gundogan after the player's father revealed there is no agreement in place between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid.

The German international, 23, is one of the hottest properties at the moment in Europe and is attracting huge interest with negotiations stalling over a new deal with Dortmund.

Reports in Spain suggested that Madrid had secured the services of Gundogan for next season, however it has been denied by the midfielder's father.

"There is no agreement between Gundogan and Real Madrid," he told Kicker.

“We only stopped contract negotiations with Dortmund because we do not want to disturb him during his injury”

"Obviously, it is possible that he will extend his contract."

MARCA had claimed a deal was in place that would see Gundogan move to the Bernabeu with Nuri Sahin set to join Dortmund on a permanent basis as part of the deal.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is keen to bring Gundogan to the Emirates Stadium and pair him with his international team-mate Mesut Ozil, who has made a superb start to life at the club since his summer transfer from Madrid.

David Moyes is also an admirer of Gundogan and is eager to add to his midfield options in the January transfer window.

StarSport revealed last month that the United boss was willing to let Brazilian star Anderson leave the club in order to bring in another midfielder - click here to read the full story.

Dortmund rate Gundogan at £25m and will be unwilling to accept a bid of anything less than that figure.

There is no way in hell Dortmund only rate him at just £25 million. He's their best midfielder by far and one of the best in Europe.

£35 million is a more realistic price.

Ilkay Gundogan responds to rumours linking him with a move to United amid contract delays

Ilkay Gundogan has insisted that ongoing contract negotiations with Borussia Dortmund remain his priority amid continuing delays surrounding an extension.

The 23-year-old’s talks with Dortmund have stalled due to Gundogan’s long term injury and he has since been linked with a move to Manchester United who are in search of a midfield signing.

But when asked by reporters about the current status of his contract extension, Gundogan admitted that discussions with Dortmund remain his priority.

“Dortmund is my first point of contact,” he said.

Gundogan is considered by many as the perfect midfielder for United’s ailing midfield given his box-to-box style of play but a long term injury has curtailed his season, something which he has found very difficult to cope with.

“Immediately after the Paraguay game was the worst because I found it hard to move at all. Both sitting and standing was very, very problematic,” he told DFB.de.

“Nowadays there’s a slight pull but I’ll be glad if I’m fit after three months. So far, the irritation of a nerve happens to be a lengthy history. It will probably take a short period. I have set no target for my return but right now, things are developing very positively.

“I am a very, very impatient person and during such periods I am not conducive. I could only watch the last three months which is painful. That feels downright painful.

“But I’ll guarantee not to play again until I am completely fit and stable stand on the pitch. Is most important that the injury is completely healed. Only then can I come back even stronger.”

Earlier this week, Dortmund’s sport manager Michael Zorc told Kickr that discussions had hit a deadlock but that the club were looking to resolve the delays as soon as they can.

“Due to the lengthy injury of course, a certain deadlock in the talks occurred. We will take up the issue quickly,” he said.

And his father Irfan Gundogan intimated that a contract extension with Dortmund was definitely possible despite the delays due to his injury.

“As is known, we have had discussions about a contract extension put on hold in order not to burden Ilkay during his injury.”

“Of course it is also possible that the contract in Dortmund will be extended.”

With so much up in the air, Gundogan’s future with Dortmund is far from resolved. Long delays have allowed speculation to build and while a move by David Moyes in January would be extremely unlikely, if he was to play his hand and show an interest it would at least cause shockwaves in the Gundogan camp – and the fact he was very good friends with Shinji Kagawa could be a very powerful pulling tool.
