I feel that rest for players in some matches is necessary, but is it so necessary in these kinds of situations?

Today we missed Scholes, Ronaldo, Evra & Tevez in the line-up, if we would have played these players too in this important game they would had 3 night to recover and reload their batterys. And instead of putting Ronaldo in late in the game, i would prefer to start with the best we could, and maybe put tevez, Park and Fletcher in around after 60-65 mins, if we would start with a 4-5-1.

For players who are in this level, who are on the trainings every day, they should be able to play 2 games / week. i might be so wrong on this, but idon't know, i feel that you should start with the strongest team you could in a game like this..

I agree, tho I can understand why someone like Scholsy needs a rest after a hard game but youngsters as Ronaldo should be able to play. Maybe Fergie knows something we dont!?...but since Ronnie came on in todays game as a sub...i feel he should have started the game.

OMG!! Andreas you just read my mind mate! I was going to start a thread about this topic myself but you already did one so good on you and your going to get rep points from me lol!

Really yesterday was very very fustrating. Many people from Man United staff and players said they were going to Stamford Bridge to win, to retain the title and to put it out of the way before Barca. To me it seems that was all lies. The starting line up was what really ticked me off. Iv seen Fergie do the same mistake over and over for the 11 years I have been watching Man United and his starting line up was what I believe lost us the game - not really the tactics. How could one leave out the best player in the EPL and argubly in the world atm (Ronaldo) in one of the (if not the) most important game in this season? And what happend to Evra? And Scholes who was by far the best player at Barca in the midfield? And what about Tevez who has scored vs Chelsea at OT and for West Ham too? And why would you want to start Fletcher and put O'Shea on for Anderson? Its the personell choice of Fergie which lost us the game and it really ticked me off. Vidic's injury did not help in the first half and Rooney holding his hip really looked bad and the ref was not kind at all but I believe if we chose our real frist team and strongest first 11 we would of won and done history. Fergie has bottled games before with his wierd choice of players and he did it again yesterday. If we lose the EPL title it will truly be embarassing and if we rested so many key players and lose to Barca at OT it will also be shameful. I just hope Fergie can correct these last 2 poor performances with a massive win vs Barca.

I also believe that with the wages these players get - they should be able to play 2 games in the space of 3-4 days and one who we all claim to be one of the best in the world should be able to play 3 full games in a trot imo and should not have to be rested in such an imporant stage in the season.

He is the 'most winning manager' Britain ever produced.

So yes, yes he does know a considerable amount more than EVERYBODY on this or any other forum !

He has probably forgotten more than any of us will ever know !

So, personally, I will stick with Fergie's judgement ... ;)

Really, I just don't think you can afford to rest players for a game so crucial to us. I mean Scholes yeh but not the younger lads, you could see Ronaldo was pissed off on the bench he wanted to be out there playing and he should of been.

Good question Andreas. In hindsight its easy to say he should have played
x and y etc.... but in general Id agree with you that players at this level should
be able to play a few games a week, but it does take its toll at the end of a long,
hard season. Clearly the game against Barca is far more important than the
Chelsea game. We could afford to lose to Chelsea and still be in pole position
in the Prem. Losing to Barca on tuesday will be the biggest kick in the teeth.
Im now glad that Ronaldo, Scholes, Tevez and Evra amongst others will
be suitably fresh and raring to go.
We have seen Barca losing this weekend cos they rested their entire team,
so at least we will be in a similar situation as them.

I said in a thread about risking losing to Chelsea we should of started with our best team against Chelsea.

For games like West Ham at home for example, I would understand resting players.

But Chelsea away? We could have wrapped up the title and been able to relax a bit more, but as usual, we're doing it the hard way.

Yeah you can say they are super fit and they should be able to play lots of games but if you think back to last season we were knackered in the fa cup final the players struggled to finish the game they were that tired

its not a case of who he rests. its a case of when he rests them. the logical thing to do is to start with your strongest team. do the business on the pitch, then start taking players off 1 by one.

yet fergie insists on us conceding a goal before he throws on big players ! why !

I understand why Fergie picked the team that he did but when it's the run-in at the end of the season, you pick your best team for all the matches. The run-in isn't as busy this year as it has been in past seasons.

It's not guaranteed that we would have won yesterday with the strongest 11, but if we had won, then we could rest a few players against West Ham and Wigan.

It was a gamble and it hasn't paid off.

Erm.....

I think Fergie would have started with his very best team, if he thought he could afford too.

What Carly has written is correct: he is the most successful manager in British footballing history and has to balance factors that we are not even privy to.

Trust the old wily fox and accept that despite thy hype by Fergie, he was never going to put out his best team for this tie 3 days before the 2nd leg of a Champions League semi-final.

After the draw at Blackburn, Fergie probably made up his mind to try and win the league against West Ham and Wigan rather than Chelsea.

The draw at Boro and Blackburn were big blows, but they weren't Ferguson's fault. We deserved to win against both teams, but we had rotten luck in both ties plus Friedel had a blinder against us.

Fergie wouldn;t have rested players unless he felt he had to, in order to protect them from lethargy and (this has to be said) injury to star players inflicted by dirty opposition.

Fergie's judgement v Chelski could in the end give us a zero season. Barcelona will not come to OT to die they will give us a hard hard game. If they win it, bye bye Europe. THEN, if we do not beat bogey team West Ham, it will also be bye bye Premiership.

My personal opinion is Fergie blew it yesterday, but - its only my opinion. I have not posted for 24 hours after the game because I was so mad at Fergie.
