Just how much money do you need to offer one of the worlds best players when
you want to keep hold of them ?

LA Galaxy value David Beckhams services at a mind boggling £16,000,000 per
year.

Barcelona rate Ronaldhino at £15,500,000 !

So how much will United be forced to spend out to retain the services of a certain
Mr Cristiano Ronaldo ?

Well it seems they have tabled an offer in the region of £14,000,000 per year
until 2014 !

This includes bonuses and image rights deals too but it's a rather hefty amount of
cash !

Close to £100,000,000 in the next 6 years !

Is Ronaldo or ANY player worth this much money ?

Or has the world gone crazy … ?

Individuals can command salaries that reflect their contribution to an organisation... Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player in the world hence can command the best salary in world football regardless of how much that is!!CEO's etc make alot more money than ronaldo will ever make because they make millions for their organisation as does cristiano, i work for merrill lynch an investment bank and some of our best traders (which i hope to be soon) got bonuses of 10 million pounds this yr on top of their extravagant salaries! If you can make a company money you will be rewarded accordingly a la that boy ronaldo... 14m p/y prob only scratches the surface of the revenue ronaldo can produce!!!

Based on Ronaldo valued ( to buy ) at £16m and weighing 12 stones he is worth £5953.38 per ounce. :D ( alter figures for yearly value etc ).

But to answer Carlys main two questions..

"Is Ronaldo or ANY player worth this much money ? NO.

Or has the world gone crazy … ? " YES.

Money, greed, profits and buisness are what is going to cause the eventual downfall of football as football as we know it .

That's a lot of $$$/ounce. And yes, unfortunately, the world is going crazy.

Oh, and I checked the current price of gold/kilo, which is at $30,000. Compare that to Ronnie's $419,000/kilo.

People have misunderstood this thread ...

£14,500,000 is what Ronnie is worth EVERY YEAR in salary !

To buy him would cost in excess of £50,000,000 I would imagine ...

£18,601.19 per ounce ...

£654,761 per kg ...

Makes gold look positively cheap doesn't he ... ?

I HOPE people misunderstood what you were asking!! cos what he weigh's and the price of gold has toss all to do with what kind of salary he can demand!!!

ok... people find it difficult to understand why some football players get paid so much, the only reason people hear about how much they earn is cos they're in the public eye..

ANYBODY who can make a company/ organisation (cos face it thats what football teams are now) a lot of money will be rewarded accordingly/ compensated if you will for their input into making money for the organisation...

This could be stock/comodity trader's some of whom make 10 times what football players make yet no1 questions why they earn so much... they earn this kind of money because they're generating massive revenues for the banks they work for, and if they're not paid their due by one bank they'll move elsewhere!!

In the case of Cristiano he scores goals, inspires wins, raises the bar, raises the profile of the club... sells jerseys etc etc... bottom line is he is making the club MILLIONS a year!

Is it crazy: YES

Is he worth it: YES

says who??? the lad still needs to prove himself against decent opposition superior to newcastle. i am sick to the back teeth of hype merchants on sky and the bbc talking this chap up.Till he proves himself against quality opposition in the champions league or the big four teams he isnt within an asses roar of the world's best player status. He has consistently failed to produce against these teams and the only reason he has scored 29 goals is because (a) he thrives against mediocre teams and (b) he takes twice as many shots as anybody else as proven by the stats in last years premiership. Can you imagine him unselfishly passing the ball to Nani as rooney did first half today? Football is a team game and whilst Ronny has learned a lot about this concept he still has some way to go as evidenced by wednesday night.

aS regards footballers earning as much as people earn in business I dont believe there is a comparison. They are already earning an obscene amount of money and in a lot of cases thse young men don't know how to handle it . Football is a working class game and till managers realise that by paying footballers any more than they're already on is just further alienating fans who are as important to the club as the players are.I know its a short career but enough is enough greed still comes a poor second to loyalty to a football club.

Fans have been alienated for years. I said only recently somewhere that, in the museum, a tour guide said to someone, "this is not a football club, its a business". You make a valid point about Ronaldo doing this in the top games; I would tend to agree with that point. But, potentially, he is the most "Valuable" player on the planet right now. Even Kaka has "gone off the boil".

Ronaldo's time will come, he only turned 23 yrs old last week.

We should be very grateful for the extremely good return of goals we get from a player in his position. He'll grow into the best player in the world in the next 2 yrs IMO.

He is worth a ridiculous amount.
We just have to make sure he remains a United player for as long as possible.
He is en route to being the best in the whole world.
As Fergaiste said he does need to produce against the big teams, which he has failed to do, but when a winger is scoring 30+ goals a season, there isnt too much we can complain about. No matter what he does between now and the rest of the season he has pretty much got all the personal accolades in the bag already.
