HIDDINK GIVEN RUSSIAN GO-AHEAD
http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8652_4911169,00.html

Guss Hiddink looks set to be named interim Chelsea manager after the Russian FA said combining two jobs would not be a problem.

Hiddink has said he would be happy to take over at Stamford Bridge until the end of the season while still remaining in charge of the Russian national side.

Russian FA general director Alexei Sorokin is quoted as saying: "We don't see it as a problem. The timetable of the national team allows Guus to combine the two jobs."

The Dutchman is currently in Turkey where he is preparing his Russia side for a friendly on Wednesday.

And he has admitted his interest in a role at Stamford Bridge "for the next two or three months" while confirming he won't be leaving his international post.

Earlier Hiddink's agent had played down any move to Stamford Bridge, but the 62-year-old has now expressed a desire to help the Blues.

He told Reuters: "I must say that this is an exceptional situation.

"If it was any other club aside from Chelsea my answer would be a straight 'no'.

"But Chelsea is different because I have good relations with the owner. So I would like to help them in this situation if I could.

"But this would only be for the next two or three months until the end of the season.

"Of course when Russia would play (World Cup qualifiers) I would go there to coach them during that (international window) as there won't be any (league) games during that time.

"I have already done that (combining two jobs) a couple of years ago when I was coaching Australia and PSV (Eindhoven), so I'm familiar with the situation and what it takes.

"I will not leave my job with the Russian national team. It's out of the question. When I took the Russia job it was a long-term project and I don't like to leave it unfinished."

I'm not really sure why he'd want to go to a club on a temporary contract tbh. It sounds a bit insulting to him really

As for the bit where he says "If it was any other club aside from Chelsea my answer would be a straight 'no', I think he's saying that to perhaps get on the good side of the Chelsea supporters, and perhaps the Russians as well.

By temporary I meant in terms of having a short-term contract.

hmmm suppose your right didn't spot that  but maybe hes only putting it on temporary to see how he finds the job rather than signing a 4 year year contract and only been manger for 5 months! something similar to Kinear?

they are probably offering him a lorry load of cash dont forget.....if it goes wrong he can walk away and say he was just the caretaker and get a wad of cash- if it goes right he's just got himself the job full- time......win -win situation if you ask me

I guess so.

And I suppose it makes his job with Russia easier if he isn't committed to Chelsea long term.

That's true. I'm just surprised though that a manager of Hiddinks quality would be asked just to be a temporary. Unless of course, the stories that they want Ancelotti are true and perhaps they can't think of anyone else who'd want to be a caretaker.
