Sir Alex Ferguson claims Sunderland boss Roy Keane is the most influential signing of his career as United manager.

Ahead of the Irishman's return to Old Trafford on Saturday, Sir Alex feels his former club captain has what it takes to be a success in management.

In an exclusive interview to be aired on Setanta Sports 1 on Friday, Sir Alex told Des Lynam: "In terms of ability, Roy wasn't the best player; but in terms of influence, he was.

"Certain people do well in life because of real determination and a fire in their stomach that gets them somewhere. He has good knowledge of the game and he's strong-minded.

"I see a bit of myself in him. I think that most managers want to see themselves on the pitch and with Keane I certainly saw that."

While surrounded by more naturally gifted talents during his time at Old Trafford, it was Keane's unerring determination which made him one of the modern era's finest players, according to Sir Alex.
