Tomasz Kuszczak has set his sights on claiming a first-team place at Manchester United next season, despite increased competition from the returning Ben Foster.

Kuszczak spent the majority of this season on the bench, limited to just a handful of appearances in the league and domestic cups.

And England keeper Foster has had an impressive couple of seasons on loan at Watford - with many suggesting he will be challenging for the number one jersey at Old Trafford next term.

But, with Edwin van der Sar unsure of his place following some high-profile blunders towards the end of the season, Kuszczak says he is ready to step up to the challenge.

"Ben Foster is a good keeper and he is coming back, and we have Edwin van der Sar here playing as first-choice now.

"But I feel there is a big chance for me to play and I want to fight - and win.

"My ambition was always to play in a big team and this is the biggest team in the world.

"I don't want people to think I am demanding to play. That's not the case. I just want people to know that I can do the job and want to do it."

And, while he acknowledges Foster's fine form, he feels he did much the same when he was at West Brom.

"People say Ben has been making great saves and that is certainly the case," continued Kuszczak.

"But don't forget people said the same about me at West Brom and that is why I was chosen to come here in the first place."

For the first time in ages we have some good keepers. I think VDS still has a lot to offer and is a great keeper despite his couple of small blunders(all keepers have them). This coming season he will be a great mentor to Kuszczak and Foster and he can teach them everything there is to know. He has played at the highest level since 1990 and has a ridiculous amount of international caps. I doubt Kusz will be no.1 for a very long time, if ever. They might loan him or Foster out next season because none of those 3 will want to play 3rd fiddle. VDS will still be Uniteds no.1 next season and he deserves it. There will be more pressure on him with the 2 others breathing down his neck so it should make him play better.
All in all having 3 excellent keepers is a great problem to have.
