Frank Lampard will miss Chelsea's Premier League showdown against Manchester United on Saturday following the death of his mother from pneumonia.
Chelsea boss Avram Grant has named his squad for the Stamford Bridge fixture and the 29-year-old midfielder's name is missing.
Michael Essien, suspended for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Liverpool this week, returns to the squad.

This actually an old piece of news futbol, I knew about this 3-4 days ago. And that said, Lampard will be absent and that could actually help Chelsea as he and Michael Ballack tend to get into each other's way. The German international will be the main goal-scoring threat from midfield for the Blue Scum, and this could be liberating for him as Avram Grant will field either Michael Essien or Claude Makelele as a defensive foil to let Ballack focus on his goal-scoring responsibilities. When on form, Ballack is one of the very best midfielders in the world. ;)
