Ok, so here's a thread about our lovely league, called Liga Sagres, and I'm posting this as we play week 21. All the games between the big 3 have been played, and it's still a close race, but porto seem in line to win another, a much closer one than last year, where they won with 15 or 16 points, which is basically due to the differences in squad value, with porto still riding high on their european earnings. benfica pretty much buy a new team and coach every year, where they get their money I don't know, but I can guess... This year, they've played a few decent games, but some disastrous ones too, but still, all in all, a better year for them, since last year's 4th place and 0 trophies didn't make fans happy.
As for Sporting, we're still mostly a home grown team, we've won a few cups in recent years, but the league still escapes us. Were the team with the smallest budget, of the Big Three, we could be doing better, but there's a few primma-donnas in the squad, that think only of money, and are producing $h!t.
The biggest surprise so far as been Leixões, newly promoted to the League, and currently in contention for a European spot.

This is how it stands right now:

Team Points Played
1. FC Porto 45 21
2. Benfica 43 21
3. Sporting 41 21
4. Sp. Braga 36 21
5. Leixões 35 21
6. Nacional 35 21
7. Marítimo 33 21
8. V. Guimarães 27 21
9. E. Amadora 26 21
10. Académica 24 21
11. Naval 23 21
12. P. Ferreira 19 21
13. V. Setúbal 19 21
14. Trofense 18 21
15.Rio Ave 17 21
16. Belenenses 16 21

Week 21 Fixtures:

Rio Ave 1-1 Marítimo
Sporting 2-0 P. Ferreira
Leixões 1-4 F.C. Porto
V. Guimarães 3-1 Belenenses
Académica 1-0 Trofense
E. Amadora 2-2 Sp. Braga
Naval 1-2 Benfica
V. Setúbal 2-0 Nacional

As a final note, a comment on referees. These might seem a little rose coloured, but it's what I see. There's the Big 3, and then there's the rest. Pretty much every single year, the Big 3 end up with decisions going in their way against the others, sad, but very true. However, of the 3, Sporting is clearly the poor cousin. We've had a grand total of 10 goals wrongly disallowed this season, we had a penalty beeing given against us on foul a full 5 meters from the box (!!) and we've had our players massacred with little or no disciplinary action. Nevertheless, if there's a team that has very good reasons for complaint, that is Braga, because they both dominated and created chances to win their games against both benfica and porto, and were quite literally robbed of 6 points, since they lost both matches. Curiously (or not), in their game against Sporting, they won 3-2 with a goal that didn't cross the line...

There's 4 more games today, and another tomorrow, so I'll update this after those games are over, and then I'll try to keep this as much up to date as possible.

Not all games are streamed, but a good ammount are. you can find most of them here:
SoccerTV
Today there's 2, Amadora - Braga and Naval - Benfica
you can also find the goals and highlights from the games, not only from Portugal, but from pretty much every other country as well here:

thanks for this Sporting ;) few questions for you.
So they play 30 games a season then is it? So there are 9 to play.
I see the big 3 are at the top as usual.
When was the last time one of those teams didn't finish in the top 3? (apart from last season, who was it got 3rd?)
Sporting still have a chance though. I hope they can do it. Top 2 for the CL I take it?

Yup, 9 games to go. We had more teams a few years ago, but a country the size of Portugal doesn't justify a bigger league.
Benfica has had a few tough years, and appart from that 4th last year, they ended in 5th or 6th a few years back too, but usually it's the top 3 spots for the Big Three. Last year, it was Guimarães that finished 3rd, but this year their form is a bit worse.

To put things in proper context, there's been 5 teams that have been champions, and those other 2 teams, Belenenses and Boavista, were only once. All other wins have been devided between the Big Three.

As for Europe, we've been scoring less and less points, mainly because there's pretty much 2 teams, sometimes 3 giving decent points. So yeah, 1st place get's into CL directly, 2nd goes trough qualifying. And then there's 4 (I think) places for Europa League.

Anyways, updated the top post with today's games:

Academica 1-0 Trofense
Guimarães 3-1 Belenenses
Amadora 2-2 Braga
Naval 1-2 Benfica

Does'nt start for them anymore really I think, isn' that right Sporting. Sure, even Bolton were trying to sign him during January.

How's Veloso doing Sporting?

Well, he's been a regular prima donna this season.
1st, doesn't want to play where the team needs him to, then he gets these interesting injuries, and gets annoyed when Sporting don't let him leave for Bolton (I mean, wtf? bolton??) for about one fifth of his value...

So till then, he'll probably be side-lined until he learns proper respect and professionalism or until his contract runs out, and then, we'll see who'll pick up a player with a bad rep and pretty much 1 good season in his record...

Anyways, last game of the day, [email protected]$$€$ benfica won away 2-1 against naval, so they're back in 2nd...

On tonight's closing game of the week, bottom league Setubal beat Nacional 2-0, leaving the relegation zone, breathing a bit easier. Nacional missed the opportunity to move away from Braga and Leixões in the European race, meaning everything stays pretty much the same up top.

3 more results from the Liga Sagres:

Paços de Ferreira 4-0 Leixões
Benfica 0-1 Guimarães
Sporting 2-0 Rio Ave

so Sporting move into 2nd, 1 point clear of benfica, and 1 point shy of porto, who've yet to play

Nice, you must be delighted. Benfica losing at home as well. Thats a shock.
How did Sporting play? who scored? etc...

They played enough, which is to say not much... After taking 7-1 up the arse, you'd imagine they'd try harder to please the fans, but no... 2nd half was a disgrace. Goals by Moutinho and Rochemback. I posted Rochembach's goal on the imsoniacs thread, I think...

Anyways, results from today:

Belenenses 2-2 E. Amadora
Trofense 0-1 V. Setúbal
Sp. Braga 1-1 Académica
F.C. Porto 2-0 Naval

So porto increase their distance to the 2nd, which is us, now, 4 points behind. Braga lose a good chence to close on benfica and fight for 3rd... Tomorrow is thhe Madeira derby, between Maritimo and Nacional.

As for my feelings, they're mixed. I like it when we win, of course, but our club is in bad shape, we need new leadership, and I fear these results will mask the real problems of the club, and allow the current batch to stay in power and ruin our club for good...

3. Benfica 43 22
4. Sp. Braga 37 22
5. Nacional 36 22
6. Leixões 35 22
7. Marítimo 34 22
8. V. Guimarães 30 22
9. E. Amadora 27 22
10. Académica 25 22
11. Naval 23 22
12. P. Ferreira 22 22

Leixoes 0-1 Sporting Lisbon (Derlei 13mins)

Was it a good game Sporting?
Not really, no... We controled the game, but had 3 injuries on midfield players, adding to the 2 we had already, means we could be down 5 midfielders for next game

Anyways, I was waiting for the all the games to be over, which they pretty much are:

Académica 1-0 Belenenses
V. Guimarães 1-3 F.C. Porto
V. Setúbal 0-3 Sp. Braga
Marítimo 1-1 Trofense
Naval 0-0 P. Ferreira
Leixões 0-1 Sporting
E. Amadora 1-2 Benfica
Rio Ave 0-2 Nacional (atm)

So the league stays pretty much the same up top:

Clubs Points Played
1. FC Porto 51 23
2. Sporting 47 23
3. Benfica 46 23
4. Sp. Braga 40 23
5. Nacional 39 23
6. Marítimo 35 23
7. Leixões 35 23
8. V. Guimarães 30 23
9. Académica 28 23
10. E. Amadora 27 23
11. Naval 24 23
12. P. Ferreira 23 23
13. V. Setúbal 22 23
14. Trofense 19 23
15. Belenenses 17 23
16. Rio Ave 17 23

The porto result is pretty important, since it was one of their thougher matches till the end of the season, meaning it's gonna be them to take it, quite likely...

Day 24 of Liga Sagres, and our dear friends benfica had a hickup, loosing to Académica at home 1-0...
It was Académica's 1st away win this season , and it puts them 4 points behind Sporting. Luckily for them, Braga drew their game, so they're 5 points ahead of them, instead of 3. However, if National win their game on monday, they move into 4th, 1 point ahead of Braga and 4 behind benfica.

Results
Sp. Braga 1-1 Marítimo
P. Ferreira 1-1 V. Guimarães
Leixões 1-0 Rio Ave
Sporting 3-1 Naval
Belenenses 2-1 V. Setúbal
Benfica 0-1 Académica
F.C. Porto 3-0 E. Amadora

Trofense Vs. Nacional (Monday, April 13th, 19:45)

So the league stands now like this:
Clubs Points Played
1. FC Porto 54 24
2. Sporting 50 24
3. Benfica 46 24
4. Sp. Braga 41 24
5. Nacional 39 23
6. Leixões 38 24
7. Marítimo 36 24
8. Académica 31 24
9. V. Guimarães 31 24
10. E. Amadora 27 24
11. P. Ferreira 24 24
12. Naval 24 24
13. V. Setúbal 22 24
14. Belenenses 20 24
15. Trofense 19 23
16. Rio Ave 17 24

Yeah, there's threads about spain, italy, etc, so they asked me to create it, so here it is...

Yeah, I think you might at that, but maybe with Lucho out, you'll lose some points... I hope.
