Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insists his team were NOT outplayed by Tottenham in their midweek 5-1 Carling Cup semifinal defeat at White Hart Lane.

He said: "We had 500 passes, Tottenham 222. We had 64 per cent of possession and we had 18 shots on goal, Tottenham 12, and we lost 5-1. That sums up the game."

He also dismissed Emmanuel Adebayor's apparent butt on teammate Nicklas Bendtner during the game as a 'minor incident' which will be dealt with internally.

Wenger said: "Disagreements are part of the game. There is always action taken when it is needed. From then on, it is better not to talk about it.

"We will even use this to be conscious of how much every incident, even a minor one, can be interpreted on the outside. That will even improve our togetherness."

is the "sore loser " right expression ?

I don't think Wenger will mind at all or opens his mouth if both the statistics and the final outcome are the other way round. Verdict: Sore looooooser.

Can he say otherwise?!
hey, but at least he didn't punch anyone this time ;) - but then again - ade did... ;)
lol I never heard about that. If you lose 5-1 then you were severely outplayed doesn't matter how much possession, or shots you had. If it were a tight match then maybe Arsene had a point but to lose 5-1, and say "we were not outplayed".........the FA should do a drugs test on him.
I think David Bentley's article about how he wanted to quit football because of Arsenal sums this up perfectly. At Arsenal all they cared about was statistics and numbers, mathmatically perfect football, where as Bentley played football for enjoyment and passion.

Stupid ****, football is from your soul, not your calculator.

I know, Wenger is just as stupid as those people who calculate who the best teams/players/managers are. You can't calculate who the best player ever was, nor the team, nor the manager. I mean look at the fans. I'm sure all of the Arsenal fans were saying, "Well we lost 5-1 to Tottenham, but look at those 500 passes! We rule!" I mean, you hear Arsenal going on about how they always get the best buys, and how their talent is cheap, compared to us who spend 30m on Rooney and however much on Tevez and Anderson, etc... I'll tell them I don't care! The reason why we spend so much for them and don't care is because they're passionate about football! They'll run up and down the pitch to make sure we win. Look at Rooney against the team in Saudi Arabia, he was going 100%, he doesn't like to lose. And that's why, no matter who says what, United are the best team there is. Look at Keane, Giggs, Cantona, and now Rooney, Tevez, Anderson, etc... We love football for football and have a never say die attitude, so I'll be damned if some association is going to tell me that Ancelotti is better than Sir Alex, or Barca is the best team of he past 18 years, or that Wenger and his calculator are correct after being routed 5-1. **** that.

good post but then again - that's why we have Manager of they YEAR. Player of the YEAR awards. no one's saying Ancelotti is more succesfull than SAF - but he won a trophy of them all _ CL. The one SAF's been crawing for years mate. That's why Ancelotti is according to them ahead.
Hmmmmm lets see

Sir Alex season review 2006-2007

League: Won by 6 points, after being written off in the beginning by so many people.
Cup: Reached the final, lost in extra-time in a game that could've gone either way.
UCL: Reached the semi-final, 2nd leg was just a bridge too far.

Ancelotti season review 2006/2007

League: finished 36 points behind, admittedly they were never really in it having had an 8 point deduction but even so they would still be 28 points behind. You'd expect more from the best manager in the world. Wouldn't you?
Cup: Not sure where they were, but they didn't reach the final.
UCL: Won it, convincingly

Verdict: Sir Alex is better!!

Cup: Not sure where they were, but they didn't reach the final.
UCL: Won it, convincingly
and a world club championship - still won 1 more than Sir Alex !
Verdict: Sir Alex is better!!
as I said - trophies count mate;) and why do you all bother what some stats say ... we know we wouldn't trade SAF for anyone ( although head to head basis the advantage holds ancelotti )
and take into account a fact that he's won 1 scudetto and 2 cl's with 2 times runner up for scudetto and once runner up in the CL, and 1 semi finals of the UEFA CUP ( since 2001 ) and compare it to SAF's achivements and you'll see that Carlo is also a top top manager. He's been keeping Milan always up there

Good post overall, but this comment gave me a big laugh.

I just hate arsenal so bad, when i watch them play i really do think they play worse than united, but they always succed to win. They are so even, they almost Never do a bad game imo. And when my friend who are an Arsenal fan tells me he rather have Flamini then any other United mid fielder it makes me puke.

he 's just teasing you - but he played a great game last night. MOTM surely
Wenger better dun do more talking, no wonder he always comes second to sir alex when it comes to playing mind games
I'd imagine he knows better but is just trying to convince himself it's ok.
What I learned from playing as a captain, that if your team play bad you let them off that day, "hard luck" but at the next training you give them a hard talking to. Maybe this is the case here

Well said Sir
To be the best manager, it depends on the quality of players that you have.. it`s not enough to be smart

It takes a smart manager to pick the right quality of players and hone them to fit vision and gameplan. ;)
