MANCHESTER United hero Mickey Thomas blamed rival Scousers for nicking his car — but he simply FORGOT where he parked it.
The former wing wizard reported his new £30,000 Volvo 740 stolen from outside Liverpool's Anfield stadium after their recent 2-1 victory over the Red Devils.
Mickey, 54, who had been doing a radio commentary, returned to the ground to report the “theft†and phoned a pal for a lift home.
As he waited, Liverpool FC staff gave him tea and sympathy. Mickey said: “There were lots of police and people about and I was surprised it had gone. I was a former Manchester United player, stuck in Anfield and trying to get home. It was a bit of a nightmare.â€
He later made an appeal through local media for the return of his red motor.
But a week later the former Welsh inter-national — whose 21-year career included stints for Chelsea, Everton, West Brom, Derby and Stoke City — was left red-faced when cops found the car exactly where he parked it.
He was mistakenly looking in Sybil Road — about 200 yards from similar-looking Tancred Road where the Volvo remained untouched.
Mickey said: “I got a call from the police. It was obvious they were Liverpool fans because they were laughing — and said the wheels were still on! Everyone's been in stitches.â€
He was due to pick up the car from a police pound today.
A Merseyside Police spokesman said: “We had reports that the vehicle was lost. The log now says the vehicle has been found undamaged and secure.â€
