Manchester United must wait until the summer to sign Southampton fullback Gareth Bale.

The Mirror says Bale, 17, was offered a huge pay hike after United and Spurs both had recent £3m-plus bids turned down.

The Welsh defender has told boss George Burley he is happy to sit on his current 18-month deal until the end of the season

@redmaster - Heinze is on the last year of his contract now. If we don't sell him now, we'd do well to offer him an extension or a new contract. IMHO, we ought to keep him - we've kept faith with him after his injury and he still needs match practice to return to his tough tackling ways. I don't think his relationship with Sir Alex has soured at all, although almost everyone ni the footballing world can agree that Manchester United no longer have a #1 LB - it's a toss up between Heinze, Evra and sometimes even Silvestre.

Dont get me wrong, I really like Heinze but I just have a feeling he may be on his way!!

I don't understand why we are even looking at him! We already have so many good and very good defenders from the senior down to the academy. I think he is already overpriced and not woth it. I don't think we should sell Heinze yet either as he is slowly coming back to form. Does anyone really think we can rely on Silly if Evra was injured?
