Manchester United are set to use their Brazilian twins as bait to land Sporting Lisbon midfielder Miguel Veloso in January.

The Sunday Mirror says United may offer Brazilian twins Fabio and Rafael Silva on loan as part of a deal to sign Veloso.

United, who had an £8m enquiry for the 21-year-old rejected by Sporting, are preparing to return with an offer of £10m which will be enough to trigger a get-out clause in Veloso's contract when the transfer window reopens in January.

Sir Alex Ferguson's brother, Martin, who is United's European scout, has travelled to Portugal regularly in the two months since Veloso excelled in Sporting's 1-0 Champions League home defeat at the hands of the Reds.

Veloso said: "The best game of my career so far was when we played Manchester United. They are a great team and it is the dream of any footballer to play for such a club."

United interested in Portugese stars

Carlos Queiroz has confirmed Manchester United's interest in Miguel Veloso, but says signing the Sporting Lisbon midfielder is not a 'priority'.

United's assistant manager Queiroz - a former coach of Sporting - acknowledged Veloso was among a string of Portuguese players the Premier League champions have been watching.

But Queiroz downplayed suggestions of an imminent deal for Veloso, saying the club are well stocked in the midfield department.

"Miguel Veloso, Joao Moutinho, Quaresma, Bruno Alves, Bosingwa - all have been watched by us.

"Do we want to get these players? Of course, everyone does, however we can not work with 200 players!

"We have six players in Veloso's position, we signed Hargreaves this season and, at this point, he is not part of our options to buy as a priority."

I'm a fan of Moutinho and Quaresma but I don't know much about Bruno Alves or Bosingwa - can anyone fill me in?

Not a bad idea actually. Portugal is a good stepping stone from Brazil to Europe.

Brazillians under 18 arent allowed to move aboard at all, nothing to do with Portugal. The under 18 rule is why they've been waiting for a few years :p We picked them up at 15 i think. People only talk because there coming in July. 10/07/08 watch this space.
