Mark Hughes' £6m mansion up for sale after Carrick wins planning battle

Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes has put his house up for sale for £6 million following a planning row over Manchester United star Michael Carrick's new house.

Along with his wife Jill, former Old Trafford great Hughes has painstakingly renovated and extended the beautiful detached mansion they bought 15 years ago. But he has decided it is time to move on and put the home up for sale, making it one of the most expensive houses on the market in Cheshire.

Hughes had earlier cried foul over plans to bulldoze the house directly opposite him and in its place build a £4m mansion for 26-year-old United and England midfielder Carrick.

Hughes, 44, instructed planning experts to write to Macclesfield Council on his behalf to try to block the seven-bedroom home which will feature an indoor swimming pool, gym, cinema, library and a wine cellar in the basement.

Hughes reckoned the proposed 'Queen Anne-style' development was too big for a green belt area and that two bedrooms in the loft space would overlook his own mansion, "unacceptably reducing the level of privacy".

But the proposal was passed and work that began shortly after is due to be completed soon.

Now Hughes has decided to sell his mansion which stands in around three acres. All seven bedrooms are en suite and the house has a leisure complex, snooker room, drawing room and huge family kitchen, making it one of the most spectacular houses currently on the market in leafy Cheshire.

They (Dafyyd and Jill) are both into property devolopment anyway, his wife more of a play thing than a serious business. So it won't kill them to buy another house, somewher in Hale I would imagine, and do the same thing all over again.

Carrick seriously pissed Mr Hughes off there hasn't he.
