Smith To Boro
Manchester United have accepted a £6million offer from Middlesbrough for their out-of-favour striker Alan Smith. Boro boss Gareth Southgate made the bid for Smith at the weekend in a bid to beat north-east rivals Newcastle and Sunderland to the England striker's signature. But Smith, currently on holiday in Florida, is unsure about a move to Boro and Southgate faces a job in persuading the 26-year-old that The Riverside is the perfect place for him to resurrect his career.

The Sun reports that Harry Redknapp is aiming to hijack Newcastle’s move for Smith. Portsmouth boss Redknapp plans a £3.5million bid for the striker, 26, but faces competition from Newcastle and Boro.

I hope he doesn't go. There shouldn't be any talk about selling Smith, why are we even considering it. He is of good age and has a lot to offer to our club, he gives blood for the shirt. We shouldn't be selling our fighters we should be selling deadweights like Richardson and Silvestre. Maybe if Smith leaves it will be a sign that we are getting a new striker who knows?
