Smith To Boro
Manchester United have accepted a £6million offer from Middlesbrough for their out-of-favour striker Alan Smith. Boro boss Gareth Southgate made the bid for Smith at the weekend in a bid to beat north-east rivals Newcastle and Sunderland to the England striker's signature. But Smith, currently on holiday in Florida, is unsure about a move to Boro and Southgate faces a job in persuading the 26-year-old that The Riverside is the perfect place for him to resurrect his career.
David McDonnell, Daily Mirror

The Sun reports that Harry Redknapp is aiming to hijack Newcastle’s move for Smith. Portsmouth boss Redknapp plans a £3.5million bid for the striker, 26, but faces competition from Newcastle and Boro.

I hope he doesn't go. There shouldn't be any talk about selling Smith, why are we even considering it. He is of good age and has a lot to offer to our club, he gives blood for the shirt. We shouldn't be selling our fighters we should be selling deadweights like Richardson and Silvestre. Maybe if Smith leaves it will be a sign that we are getting a new striker who knows?

i personally think smith and saha should both go...and a new striker..some world class striker should be signd
besides silvestre is not a dead weight just had a bad season last season...he's been with uniteed for such a long time and has given to the team alot more than smith...should we forget b4 evra and heinze who was our left back?

OK maybe I was a bit harsh on Silvestre, but he doesn't have much to do anymore. We have two brilliant left-backs in Heinze and Evra, and a pretty solid centre back so he is "surplus to requirements" I think is a better way of putting it. I don't think Smith should leave because, OK so he is not a world beater or a prolific goal scorer but what he does is give us unlimited amounts of passion and determination and ofcourse keeps the first choice strikers on their toes because they know if they ease off then they will lose their place to a more hungry player like Alan Smith. All I was trying to say is if we had to sell a player then it has to be either Richardson or Silvestre.

Well it is not 100% certain yet. Smith could very well snub Boro, because he'd like to play European football on a regular basis. And of course there Fergie never actually said it through his own mouth that he was accepting the offer of Boro, so it is still out in the open. I really hope we don't sell him!

my opinion is that smith should stay but i don't think that he will join newcastle with viduka, owen, ameobi and martins upfront there. Smith is a big fighter and he should get at least one more year in the red shirt
