Great servant or dead weight?

We bought him off Inter just after the Treble in 1999.
So he is starting his 10th season with us , which will mean
he will be eligible for a testimonial.

He has been the butt of a lot of jokes over the years and he wouldnt
particularly be a fans favourite but I kinda like the guy. Over 360 apps
for United is a great accomplishment and who can forget the 2 goals
against the Scousers?

He had a terrible injury last season, which meant he missed the entire
campaign but since his return he has looked very sharp in the reserve/
pre season games he has played.

I believe this guy can definitely do the job. he is great back up for Evra
and we can even use him at centre back if needs be.

So do you think he deserves a place in the squad? or should we just sell him on?

i dont rate him at the stadard of vida or rio but hes pretty classy hed look good in most prem starting IX's although i thnk he is good cover for evra more than at CB hes always got a mistake in him in that position but at LB hes not all that bad

I think he's very underrated as a LB. If you look at all the other big clubs who can you say has a better back up LB than Silvestre? Only Chelsea IMO.

I don't think he should play CB for us though, we have enough quality there but at left back I don't think anyone can say John O'shea is a better full back than Silvestre.

I think he has a genuine interest in United aswell as he last season he went to quite a few of the reserve matches.

Aswell as the goals vs the Scousers one of my faviorite moments from him was when he crossed to Rooney in the 2-0 win vs Arsnenal in 05/06. The complete goal IMO, brilliant tackle by Vidic, amazing cross by Mikel then the finish by Rooney.

Erm.... I agree with most of what you said except the he only defends well when he plays at LB.

Theres no doubt in my mind that we should keep him.

As much as I don't rate him at CB, I think hes a great LB. Hes quick, has a great cross, strong in the tackle and defends well when he plays at LB.

Hes been great since he came back, especially against Chelsea. We might have lost but I think he was only beaten once.

His attitude is top notch. Hes been a top player for us and a great servant.

i cant understand all the negative comments about silvestre, fergie rates him otherwise he wouldnt be starting into his 10th season and not many foreign players show such loyalty to their paymasters.

silvestre has been a fine player for us over the years fair enough he makes the odd mistake which is something all players do including rio , vidic , evra , brown , gary neville and even the ever consistent denis irwin made mistakes.

i believe with evra now the clubs no1 LB and his exceptional form he has clouded peoples judgment of silvestre.

I absolutely agree.

Hes been a great servant and a great player for us over the years, and I gotta say, anyone who can't see that and admit that are a bit, well, wrong!

Its not just with Silvestre either at times. But I won't go any further either

We need players like him at the club. Loyal and capable.

Silvestre has always been one of the good players playing for United. Defenders make mistakes some of the time, Brown does it, Rio has a few. The thing about him is he makes mistakes once in a while that look like a big blunder and everyone gets on his back
I think he has been great for us in all the years he has performed at OT, but i would doubt he will stay longer.

Silvestre has shown loyalty when other haven't. e.g heinze. sir alex would have loved to see evra and heinze fighting 4 left-back for a couple of seasons, but heinze had no respect for us & left. Silvestre know he is back up & you can depend on him to do a good job when needed. He's a great servant & should b shown some respect when he leaves either this year or definetly nxt.
